Smannesman: Probably because the Gamebryo engine is temperamental, you never know what combination of driver, OS, hardware and just regular game/engine bugs will cause it to crash.
Still, they are both (IMO) an amazing amount of fun.
I've finished both of them at least three times each, even when the third playthrough of NV was crashing every 30 minutes.
Heck, I'm even playing NV for a fourth time these days.
I don't think this particular crash had anything to do with the Gamebryo engine; it was crashing pretty much immediately whenever I tried to launch the game until I disabled GFWL. Still, they are both (IMO) an amazing amount of fun.

Anyway it would be nice if Bethesda signed up with GOG.com, they have so many games I'd re-buy here just to get them DRM-free & to have issues like this already fixed "out of the box".
