JAAHAS: [ Are you saying that Steam has become so powerful that they can dictate the publishers to agree on letting Steam unilaterally decide whether their games can suddenly be released as DRM free? And even if so, when Steam goes under the creditors would see any DRM free patches as diminishing the company's worth and would sue anyone releasing them.
No I am saying that the Steamworks CEG component is a service provided by Valve and covered by its own TOS. The customers (in this case the developers and/or distributors) are free to use it or not (there are a few games on Steam which do not), or make use of any extra third party DRM alongside it.

Zandolf: Now, what's your deal? I asked some questions, people here were nice enough to answer my questions, and thank you all very much for that, then you come along trying to cast doubt on what I said. What does that do for you? Really sad dude.
Well, after conversing with you via PM I can safely say you're one of the most defensive people I've ever spoken to. I neither called you a liar nor implied you were a liar.

Really? You're the one that came here and posted after the PMs. I am defending what I posted, nothing more. You're the one that is pushing the issue. I let your last insulting PM go so you came here. You never responded to my questions, instead you did what? This whole thing with you is a non-issue. I don't appreciate your remarks as they add nothing to the forum and infer some kind of deception on my part (aka: a lie). I don't understand what you think I could gain by my statements other than answers to my questions, which I was quite happy with, until you came along.

You are one of the most judgmental people I've ever encountered.

I again apologize to everyone for going off topic.

Yes I did. It had already been explained what Desura was so I addressed your misconceptions.

Desura doesn't insist on being online all the time, nor is it required for games or mods.
When I say "I can only go by what I've seen" I mean "I can only go by what I've seen", not "oh my god, you're a liar!".

Perhaps my remarks don't add to the discussion in your opinion, but I certainly didn't imply you were a lying.

I also don't see how any of that equals being judgemental, but maybe that's just me.

It's unstoppable, like some righteous force, showing the world how decadent Steam really is. It can't be stopped.

I think a lot of this is just you.

And just like that the fog has cleared and I remember typing "YOU LIAR YOU LIAR YOU LIAR YOU LIAR".

I don't know what I was thinking saying I hadn't called you a liar when I so clearly had.

Not only are you not super crazy and paranoid, but you are incredibly handsome and I want your babies. Since we live on different continents and our love cannot be, I have to say goodbye forever my darling. <3

Well you kinda answered your own question there.

ShaolinsKunk: In fact, under the Interplay bundle, I got all three Fallout games for about $3.30 so even on that front GOG had them beat. Granted, it only worked out for me because I had none of the games on that deal but it works out cheaper nonetheless.

So $3.30 + goodies - DRM or $6.79 with just the DRM? You can decide which was the better deal.
Ugh, sure. It was possible to get it cheaper in the Interplay bundle, if you didn't have any of the games, and wanted all of them I guess

Personally I skipped the interplay thing alltogether since I didn't want my library filled with a bunch of (less than) mediocre games that weren't even my genre of interest just to get some games I might be interested in.

Goodies have no value to me and DRM has no bearing on my purchases unless it's highly intrusive so for me price is probably the biggest deciding factor.

But yes, the interplay bundle had it beat, strictly speaking. I doubt that appealed to many that were just after the fallout games though. Heck, if you wanted the fallout games in that deal you were looking at an instant $35+ purchase since they were in the highest tier. Not usually the first thing that comes to mind when looking for deals for me.

Okay but I'm explaining why it worked out for me, not why it should work for you too. I really don't care what you do with your time and money, if you want to shop and wait around for sales that's fine. I like to buy my games when I want to play them, not when it's more affordable (as if it weren't already) and it turns out GOG offered the better product at a better price. $12 for the two games I wanted vs. $20 for the two I wanted. Simple as that. The Interplay bundle was just a sidebar.

Serious question though, and I hope my tone throughout these posts hasn't been hostile or aggressive because that's really not my intention, why do you feel the need to defend Steam? My biggest problem with Steam is that it is in and of itself DRM. That's not something that's overcome with cheap games and an integrated interface, not for me anyway. So my point is: it's DRM, it always will be, therefore I will never purchase another game from them, in other words, I will not support DRM any longer.

If you can give me a reason to ignore its DRM besides stating that DRM is the future of PC gaming I'd like to hear it. A hidden camera inside my house isn't obtrusive either, that doesn't mean I'm okay with it.

You should be, I make a nice buck selling that camera stream.
