Or is it impossible to install Windows Media Feature Pack on Windows XP?

I thought it was a bit cheesey that this is another 360 gamepad exclusive game but it also looks exclusive to Windows 7.

If that's the case, Steam needs to quickly change the OS minimum specs.

I think I've had it on 64bit xp but can't remember >_<' maybe you should try posting the question in the steam Risk forums as it might be something that steam installs prior to the 1st run of the game (hopefully.)
I'm trying to run the demo right now. Video playback stutters and the game only gets so far before it crashes.

Shouldn't be a processor or video card issue because this isn't anything that Farm Frenzy hasn't done.

Thankfully there was a demo though!

*wipes sweat from forehead in shock of near disaster*
So basically: buggy game, probably not worth your time.

It looked entertaining. I like card and board games. Montjoie! is my current favorite. I also saw that you could turn off all those stupid cartoon characters and play serious Risk.

But they require you to have Win 7 Media software installed.

So the whole OS requirements being Win XP is a misprint on Steam's part.

Having read up on Windows Media Feature pack: you're incorrect. It's essentially Windows Media Player for EU areas.
I just fired up the demo on my XP Home machine and it worked fine. I didn't need to install anything like a "Windows Media Feature pack" and I know I've never installed anything like that in the past. If you are having issues with it, I'd have to guess it is either hardware or some kind of software conflict.

Yup but if you go to download and install it, sys reqs are Win 7 only.

Odd. I've tested over a hundred games on my setup. Have had three or four fail. This makes the fourth or fifth.

Hmm....I'm wondering.

Audials One installed a Pixie Codec pack that embedded FFDShow in my Win Media Player.

I've un-installed the codecs and FFDShow but I wonder if it's still impeded my Media player somehow.

What he means is, just make sure you've got the latest Windows Media Player that works on your system - 11 for XP. the Windows Media Feature pack is only intended to add Media Player to the Windows "N" versions (Windows XP N, Windows Vista N, Windows 7 N - as they were created to ship without Media Player due to a retarded ruling from EU).
A codec conflict was going to be my next suggestion. You might try using one of the tools here to see what additional codecs might be hanging out on your system, some of them might even help with the removal of stray codecs:

Thanks! Awesomely helpful.....unless these programs auto instll FFD again without my consent. LOL.

I'm starting to think that Codec = intricate spyware that you can't get rid of and damages vital OS components when you attempt to remove.
EDIT

Ok, i see what's going on here. The Codecs are all legitimate but if they're broken they gum things up.

Some of these tweaking programs appear to be net dependent and lead to 401's. I did find an Codec installer program that lists about thirteen different Codecs, FFDShow being one of them.

It shows that I have four of those installed and one of those four is not updated.

Is this more a matter of just going ahead and installing and updating all thirteen Codecs as opposed to running around and removing them?

You'd be safer either removing or disabling each non-default codec you have until you find out which one is causing the problem. If you haven't tried it yet, one of the tools on that page, DXMan, will allow you to disable codecs individually and is a product of a very reliable source of freeware, AnalogX:

Cool, thanks. =)
