I think some of the GOG staff can look at this thread and get the idea to label their competitors like this, since they can't legally use their names

I can just see it now, new comparison video from Enigmatic T: "GOG vs Bloody Garbage can"

darkplanetar: you can create a new category - "whatever name" where you put all unnecessary stuff

Fever_Discordia: Wait, Steam client supports categories? OMG I feel some serious categorising coming on!
Yes I've got at least a dozen categories for my catalog on steam, mostly by genre. Recently though I've been considering splitting it up into sub-genres like rpg-action, rpg-classic, fps-rpg or something as many games can be categorized in a number of different ways. I just wish the category headings had a minimize all function as they often auto expand on their own.

Yeah, I went through last night and put everything into 23 different categories, it was especially satisfying to squirrel away stuff I'd finished into a 'Completed' category to keep then separate and to be viewed like trophies!

Then made 7 games that are currently on the go 'favourites'
All good!

Roman5: If you look at the big picture...90% of all videogames ever released belong in a garbage can
I'm aware of Sturgeon's Revelation. I intended to correlate a bloody garbage can to the Steam software itself.

te_lanus: Yip there was an update last week, one of the "new" features is that F2P games now show up in your library when you own some DLC for them

Library now always shows free games if you own any of its DLC
avatar
te_lanus:
Damn it! Thanks for the info. Wish it was possible to move unwanted and unused stuff like F2P items/DLC out of library and into inventory.

That's a great idea, having a completed category... hmm, may have to re-categorize. I wish it allowed sub-categories though!

DennisLaursen89: I would be happy for a delete game option. Or even better: the opportunity to sell games on tje Steam market.
I have a garbage game called "Wargame: European Escalation", I will be happy to remove from my Steam library. On the other side, I think that game quickly will devalue to 0.01, like the TF2 crates ;)
avatar
Spinorial: Also, what's wrong with Wargame?
With Wargame: EE? Well, in the very first mission, you have only two units to fight a whole army.
And it reminds too much of Total War for me. Total War games are not necessarily bad; they are just too much micromanagement for my taste.

It took me some time to figure that out, but you can actually buy different and MOAR units there...

As DLC's? Or in-game? I haven't found it.

That's what I figure is great about it - it's Iron Curtain: Total War :P And while I've heard the game can be hard, they don't make them that hard anymore, i.e. you must be missing something. And all the DLCs for that one are free, too.

Yes, I think, I might miss something. I don't think the first mission are meant to be beaten with only two units.

te_lanus: trading cards is easy to get rid of, put them on the Steam market place, the thing that is annoying is those Backgrounds and Emoticons, they are worthless even on the Steam market :P
avatar
Crosmando: The problem with the trading cards isn't the cards themselves, but what they represent. As in, they are a sign of Steam/Valve continual dangerous movement towards "gamification". Steam should be encouraging their users to be playing the games they buy, but instead they are promoting a "collect em all" mentality, promoting social/community features, friends' lists, basically everything except actually playing games.

It always surprises me how many "gamers" will use just about any excuse in the book not actually play games. As if the important thing isn't the games themselves but being part of some gaming scene.
Then again, Steam sales on their own already encourage the habit of buying games for the sake of buying them, hence why there are so many people with Steam libraries filled with titles that they will most likely never play. So I'm not even remotely surprised that Valve is including features that further incentivise that kind of behaviour; after all, it makes no difference to them for what reason people buy as long as they buy. If anything, it's beneficial for them if people spend more time buying games than actually playing them.

Anyway, as for the main topic, Steam absolutely needs a way to delete games. But then again, Steam needs a lot of things, like the ability to "detach" retail copies from a Steam account.
