Extra annoying when Steam suddenly adds games that you don't want. This weekend Steam decided I should have Gotham City Impostors: Free To Play, Rising Storm Beta and Spiral Knights in my game library.

GCI has all of the DLC - this I can kinda understand being added since I do own the original paid version + all DLC from a Batman Franchise Pack bought last year. Going FTP and changing the DLC somewhat made me think it was no longer valid. Never played it since my laptop and connection was crap plus GFWL requirement, but things have changed since then. May give it a go.

Rising Storm Beta I don't understand since I have the Beta option set to 'NONE - Opt out of all beta programs' since installing Steam.

Spiral Knights I think is there because of bonus items from other games. Sonic CD DLC, Golden Laurel, Imperial Tricorne and Medieval War Helm show up in the DLC panel.
I have to admit it, but I quite like the trading card thing -- I call it free money! :-)

Most of the trading cards I sell, but in one case I collected a set a Call of Juarez cards -- most of which I got from playing the game -- created a badge, and received a bottle of whiskey emoticon, which I then managed to sell for £7.

Personally, I reckon that if people are crazy enough to pay silly money for a 1cm high picture, then I'll happily carry on.
It's easy to get rid of things you don't want from your inventory. Trade them to trashbot.

Agree for a delete option to the library. I made 4 categories to it being : Backlog, Played, Games and Off for the content i chose to "hide".

Hiding the dozen of Prototypes from Humble Bundle
Betas : Left4Dead 2, DOTA 2
Multiplayer entry to some games (Medal of Honor, the Ship, Crysis Wars)
MAC version of GTA's
Half-Life Deathmatch 1 & 2, Team Fortress Classic, keeping the Source version.
Some games being in "New Version" like the 3 Company of Heroes, Divinty 2, Doom 3 BFG
Spiral Knight, F2P game i never download or get but it's in my library (?)
Oldies LOOM, Indy, King / Space Quest Collection because having them on ScummVM

Quite a function the delete option would fit!

te_lanus: trading cards is easy to get rid of, put them on the Steam market place, the thing that is annoying is those Backgrounds and Emoticons, they are worthless even on the Steam market :P
I sold my :weed: emoticon for 15 euro...

(Try to get it, it's common and comes from Port Royale 3 badge)

Crosmando: The problem with the trading cards isn't the cards themselves, but what they represent. As in, they are a sign of Steam/Valve continual dangerous movement towards "gamification". Steam should be encouraging their users to be playing the games they buy, but instead they are promoting a "collect em all" mentality, promoting social/community features, friends' lists, basically everything except actually playing games.

It always surprises me how many "gamers" will use just about any excuse in the book not actually play games. As if the important thing isn't the games themselves but being part of some gaming scene.
Valve's purpose is to continue selling games and making money at the end of the day. Why should they care if you actually play the games you buy. They already have your money when you made the purchase. It's more on the developers of the games to make games interesting enough for you to actually love playing them. The collect them all cards fan fare has now encouraged people to buy games just so they can have a chance at getting the cards. It's just like Team Fortress hats. It's genius and I don't see what's so wrong with introducing it. You as the consumer is at fault for spending money on games that you don't really want to play. That's like blaming the credit card company for putting you in debt because you bought so much stuff with your card.
I don't think adding a delete option would be the ideal solution.
They'd have to hire on a dozen more support techs just to deal with issues arising from hacked accounts and all the little Timmy's out there with angry siblings trashing games.

It'd be easier to add a "vanity hide" option for those situations.
For fun they could leave the game count unchanged so people can speculate what game(s) people are too embarrassed to show.

If you don't want them, I'm more than happy to get them out of you too... (:P)

This looks good, but is it safe to use it?

EDIT: Well, it worked ^_^
I traded with this bot: 2 coupons I didn't want, for 2 others I wanted from its Inventory... (:P)

Or when adds demos of games. A few days ago, Steam add to me library the demo of Serious Sam HD TSE (appear that is since I have Serious Sam HD TFE), and no way to remove it from my library.

Sometimes it feels like that stuff is there to justify how intrusive the DRM is. I'm referring to how offline mode isn't really offline. Instead of allowing users to go offline forever, try and build a reliance on the online features. I can believe devs would be happier if everybody was always online as well...

Yip there was an update last week, one of the "new" features is that F2P games now show up in your library when you own some DLC for them
Library now always shows free games if you own any of its DLC

darkplanetar: you can create a new category - "whatever name" where you put all unnecessary stuff
avatar
Fever_Discordia: Wait, Steam client supports categories? OMG I feel some serious categorising coming on!
Pretty much this. Have used Steam for almost 5 years and didn't know this. Also didn't really know you can use user made skins - so yes, gonna change the look of Steam now.

Yeah, tru dat!

*goes back to arranging Steam library according to category, making list of games GOG hasn't got, making random forum posts and watching 'Zero Punctuation'*
According to the Steam forums, you -can- ask Steam support to remove some games from your library. But it's a complete pain in the ass.

... I just checked and Spiral Knights is in my library now. Apparently I own the Sonic CD DLC... OMG THEY GAVE ME THE TAILS DLC :D :D :D :D

*ahem*

I need to ask them to remove a few games from my game list - for some reason I have the Atom Zombie Smasher demo in my profile despite owning the full game. And Battle for Graxia, which I only installed for a stupid Steam thing a few years back.

And remove Mafia II so I can buy Mafia II Digital Deluxe since 2K Games won't offer a Digital Deluxe upgrade option...
