Ah, okay... well, I don't think EA is so evil these days. :-)
As for Steam being greedy, well, can't disagree there.

FoolalooF: I never was actually bashing steam... I have a bunch of games on steam (about 150 to be exact). So, I'm not exactly bashing or hating... Don't assume things... you know the old saying.
avatar
CaptainGyro: well your post wasn't exactly flattering towards steam so I don't think he was wrong to assume that you were bashing them.

Well I never once said, F steam, steam is bad, steam is satan's birth child. I simply alluded to the fact that they're trying to make more money than they should be, and I feel bad for lazy consumers and steam fanboys who don't make the effort to attempt to shop around for better deals! Again with the assumption. :P Back to the point, I agree with Zeewolf up here, they do appear to be fairly greedy in the situation, don't they?!

Faithful: I am open to listen.

Darling_Jimmy: Now, that is a lie. :D

You are correct, your statement is a lie! :o)

"I feel bad for lazy consumers and steam fanboys who don't make the effort to attempt to shop around for better deals" wasn't what I got at all from your first post . Read it again. You more alluded to the idea that no one would be buying them because the games were ripoffs in comparison, and that steam was silly to think that people would buy them.. I think it's more of your wording that is the problem, not the people making the assumptions. But whatever

Jesus... yet another steam-bashing thread. Maybe we should make a centralised, all-in-one thread for this instead of making a new one every 3 or 4 days.

I'm still not seeing the "bashing" and "hating" that everyone accuses me of... my wording appears, to me at least, to give off not a hostile tone, but more of a tone of regret for steam for doing something badly, even though they do a few things right. I just don't see it...

Don't worry mate, i don't see any bashing in your first post either. You mainly pointed out a difference in prices and that's pretty much a valid point if you ask me.
OK fine maybe "bash" and "hating" are strong words, but you can't deny it was being critical of steam, which is what people meant
avatar
Aliasalpha: Its also an exposure thing. Are people putting MDK or Fallout into google to see where they can buy it at the best price or are they preexisting steam users who see it on sale there, think its pretty cheap and just buy it without further research?
avatar
Darling_Jimmy: Ding, ding, ding! Steam has a built in community to keep their customers close. I have bought games from Steam without shopping around. GOG has a built in community to keep their customers close. I have bought games from GOG without shopping around.

There is also the other impetus of not wanting to fuck about with half a dozen accounts over as many services. There's several games I've been tempted by on gamersgate or similar but having yet another account was more trouble than it was worth.
I'm not really one of the steam haters, I've got around 10 games on there and now I've got an account I'll likely add to that total but the single point of failure thing makes me wary so a combination of that and being poor tends to make me only buy when things are on special

So he was being critical of steam's prices. So what ?
I'm an European, so i do that on a daily basis. I'm a customer. That's what customers do when they think they're being handed rotten deals. They point out those rotten deals, that's it.

Darling_Jimmy: You can disagree but it is as if you are challenging a religion: they won't be open to logic or discussion unless it supports (or can be twisted in to supporting) their position.

Belief is a funny thing isn't it? Somehow managest to define people's entire self image. Much like console fanboys, PS3 Fags vs Xbox.. what IS the usual spiteful derogatory term for xbox owners? I tend to tune that shit out

so...nothing. Point is he was acting like he was unfairly being accused of being critical of steam, and I'm pointing out he wasn't being unfairly accused

That I can agree with ^.^ I honestly don't see anything wrong with being critical of something that deserves critiquing....

Being critical and hating are pretty different really. One is "I disagree with what you are doing" whilst the other is "Death to the infidel!"
Having re-read the first post, the MOST that can be said is he was taking the piss out of steam for offering a lesser version of a product for a higher price so they'll lose a sale IF the user is the type to shop arround

accused?
Since when being critical while making a valid point warrants any kind of accusation ?
