P1na: So this contraband is why consoles are region locked? The reason why I can't play games that haven't been released in my country is that people might go and buy them there? It always made little sense to me that a game like Valkyria Chronicles III, which I really wanted to play yet was never released outside Japan, is unplayable to me even if I actually went to Japan to buy it.

I would say the lock they put on the language is enough encouragement for people not to do this. When I bought Bioshock on steam while I was in Germany for a business trip, due to a daily deal, I ended up with a game I could only play in German. Steam refused to let me switch to other languages, the best I could get was to get the game refunded for "a one time good will gesture".
Hey wait, you're mixing up things that are VERY different. Importing games is one thing, bypassing Steam's region detection to get cheaper games is another.

The motives may be different (getting a game not available in your region VS getting a game cheaper) but the process is basically the same. You get the game from another region by whatever means. I don't see what's so "VERY" different in that.

Link is borked? Weird... Well, no matter. The "news" is that Steam will be doing a sales encore during this weekend.

Spent so much monies on GOG and Steam this break.
Was especially pumped that I picked up I Am Alive for $5.09 on steam and Chronicles of Riddick for $3.74 here.
I am so broke now, but I can live with that.
Weekend encore sale, it never ends D:

Huh? buying the Ruse + the guide pack is cheaper than buying the game on its own?

Where I live, RUSE is €2.49 and the guide pack is €7.48. So the guide is more expensive than the game. :D

Indeed, I was asking because this whole region lock thing never made much sense to me. But whatever, I've derailed the thread long enough.

To stay on topic, I regret that there's not going to be a second sale for the complete franchise of DoW. I got a request to get it for a friend, so I guess I'll just get them retribution alone. Those 2 are MP junkies, after all.

Wait and see if DoW is in the end of sale last chance deal tomorrow.

But won't all "standard" discounts disappear by tomorrow? The retribution page states the 50% offer will only last 12 more hours.
