You actually had to ask? Oh wow.
Well, if someone else doesn't explain it to you in the mean time, I'll explain it tomorrow when I wake up.

FlyByU: What does tin foil hats have anything to do with DRM or Secure Steam???

He means that time based businesses generally don't work (the exception being MMO's and even then it's just the one, WoW, and it would fail hard if they charged 45$ for a week of play time) and that if you believe such business models are possible and will happen in the future then you are a conspiracy nut and should probably use tin foil hats and lock yourself in the basement.

FlyByU: Secure Steam and DRM is all about control over you and what you do it maybe a game but its still control and if you allow it in the smallest form they will keep pushing until you are so restricted they playing a game is allowed for 1 week at $45 if you want more time say another week well another $45... Its coming children and I am unhappy that many of you can’t wait for that day to hit.....

Yeah...so building up a successful business has simply been a ploy all along. Screw actually selling anything, we'll bankrupt ourselves with a ludicrous business model! And then we'll tie damsels to railway tracks! BWAHAHAHA!

bansama: If you really believe that, you'd better stop playing games now and start making yourself a collection of tin foil hats.

Ah, forever insulting those with whom you disagree.

Ignore trolls, don't insult them. Anyway, all things in this thread considered, Steam can win favor with many of us if Valve makes the following improvements:
-Steam client not required to run Steam-purchased games following installation and activation
-Steamworks DRM does not require the Steam client to be open
-Steam community available as XMPP or something similar so that Steam chat is accessible from 3rd party clients (it would be bliss to run Xfire and Steam via multi-protocol clients such as Trillian and Pidgin)

If you consider that an insult, then you need a thicker skin.

Cambrey: Sure, why not.

Here you go: Steam on ArsTechnica and [url=http://episteme.arstechnica.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/39309975/m/824007785931?r=979008885931]here and on GWJ Conference Call
Ok, I'll read that.

I'm sorry but anyone who buys a Alienware PC should have Steam installed anyway.
And the bad thing about getting Portal for free is?

Why is that?
For some people trojans and viruses are better than Steam. Very funny.
