Cleidophoros: Oh god I can't log into my friends list, boo Steam!
My cheevos. Noooooooooo!

On an aside note: I was actually playing HL2 a few days ago and noticed that I got cheevos up until a point in the game and then it stopped logging them(including ones I knew i'd get at some points. A bug maybe?
Only disc storage is the fail proof way of game owning!

Death to digital downloads!

[Bad disc error]

Nooooooo!!! You win internet...this time.
BIG Steam tip

During sales on steam, big ones like the Holiday sales I find that if you are going to make a purchase never use the downloaded steam interface. Instead use your webbrowser and log into steam through the net and make your purchases there. I find that, for some reason, the steam downloaded interface gets overloaded during big sales and as such a lot of payment problems crop up (typically it can't authenticate your payment).

This is especially the case nearer the end of a sale day just before all the deals change.
My steam is online now...
I'm going to look a bit silly here, but I've just made a tit of myself in Mafia 9 so its no worries.....

How do I put Steam into offline mode??

I would guess there are at least 100 people on forums right now cussing and legitimately upset about not getting their cheevos today.
Oh look, another one of these threads.
Thanks for the tip about offline mode. I knew something must be up with Steam this morning when it took several minutes to launch Geneforge 1, a game which obviously has no online features.

This also works wonders for browsing the games and looking through the catalog. I'm fond of opening any link I see of an interesting game on a new tab and keep on browsing. I haven't been able to do that on the app and it's a bit of a hassle if you want to compare one game with another and such or move back and forth between game pages.

Top left corner of Steam is the Steam menu button - click it and its the second option down.
Well I can't get steam to go into offline mode so I can't play anything. What I most want to play is MW3 which I wouldn't be able to play anyway.

As for "this thread is flamebait"- well, in a way, but seeing as we are on gog, not steam, and I pointed out in my flaming of steam that this means gog.com is good, then it's a totally different kind of thread to the thread it would be if I were just on steam's forums moaning about the downtime (which I also am, but beside the point...)

graspee: MW3
...
OK you don't like MW3. Noted. Very clever. Next time, don't bother.

StingingVelvet: True story.

That said, you can run Steam games in offline mode and not need their servers. So only installation and patching are really effected.

Personally I always have Steam in offline mode because I find their online features to be slow and buggy. It takes MUCH less time for me to launch a game in offline mode than online. Also it prevents them from downloading insane shit to my PC without me authorizing it.
Same here, i only use Steam in offline mode. The last thing i want is a 10Gb game update. I always keep at least one downloaded game from Steam, so i can play whenever i want whether they are down or not.
