The industry is (slowly) realizing this sort of thing. Amazon.com already sells all their mp3's without DRM. It's one of the few things I actually like about Amazon :)
As far as games go, GOG is a great start, as the industry isn't going to turn around very quickly, but de-DRMing older games that generates little revenue to these publishers anyway is a great idea.
It seems to me that selling media, DRM free has become a selling point. I think this is great. The more we support DRM free services, the more influential the idea of DRM free media will become.
Granted, the average Joe may still not be aware or interested in DRM, but the issue seems to be entering the public eye more and more. XKCD is not exactly mainstream but it has a large following and it's only one example of the rise of DRM debates in the media.
This can only be a good thing. Consumers should be aware of DRM and know what they are agreeing to when they purchase DRM enabled media.

Quite a few media outlets actually follow XKCD.. they have had news articles about their comics on more than once occasion. Then again, those were internet only news articles, but it still is fairly mainstream.. the office/math comic if you will. In my opinion, toothpaste for dinner is better
high rated
The thing I've never got about DRM is that the only people it actually punishes are legitimate customers.
People who distribute or download pirated games have enough knowledge to circumvent any copy protection packaged with the game.
More than once I've been put off a title I was previously interested in because of copy protection.

deathkitten: best webcomics .....

Oww sorry, just checked them out and can't agree with that list.... not even slightly! :P
I'd personally reccomend:
The perry bible fellowship
The urf, the rut, see mike draw and pencils at dawn
PHD Comics
and, of course, the lovely XKCD
But each to their own and that... :)
I'll have to have a look at those links when it's not 0025 in the morning.
My favourite two (and only two webcomics) are
The Order of the Stick - A DnD based webcomic... "You can just say +5 Longsword. We do that all the time." - Roy MBA - Party Leader, Masters of Battle Administration. OoTS also has the greatest spell ever.. "Evan's Spiked Tentacles of Forced Intrusion."
And
Looking for Group - A WoW comic. I don't play WoW and never have but this comic is something else... I can't even grab a quote because the humour is across an entire panel... But to give you an idea the Warlock's name is Richard.

No quote from LFG? You mean besides "That orphanage attacked me! It was a self-defence!"
Girl Genius. Finest webcomic in existence. To my knowledge, Any way.

NEMI !!!

Nemi! I haven't read that in ages, I thought it was just in copies of the Metro, I had no idea it was online!
And while we're on the subject:
Questionable Content, a truly superb slice of life comic with a fair but of wacky humour.
Misfile. A guy wakes up as a girl due to a cosmic filing accident and the only way to get back to normal is to get the drunk, stoner angel responsible back into heaven.
Dresden Codak Geek humour, transhumanism and awesome art.
The Seraph Inn Home to two comics, Inverloch, a completed fantasy tale and the artist's new project, The Phoenix Requiem. Inverloch was fantastic and TPR is shaping up to be just as good. Great drawing too.
Starslip Crisis An ex-warship museum in space run by a fussy curator, a drunken pirate/pilot and Mr Jinx, whose biology is best left to the imagination.
Gunnerkrigg Court I wish I went to this school...
Damn I never realised how many of these things I read...
