orcishgamer: You might want to re-read the book, the entire setting was a way to abstract out his thoughts on human selfishness. I think since you're older you may enjoy it a bit more. In eighth grade you were probably not too concerned with much beyond girls (I'm guessing, that's how I was, I could be assuming too much:) ).
By 8th grade I'd figured that I would be forever alone, so I pretty much said 'fuck it' and did shit I wanted. Every once in a while I consider re-reading it, but man, I just don't want to pick it back up. Although, thinking about it, I think that's the only Heinlein book I've ever finished. I've started reading Stranger in a Strange Land and Number of the Beast (that was him, right?), and never finished either of them. Maybe it's his writing style?
I have the game, but still have not played it yet. I seem to remember that Gamespot review gave it a bad score, and something about inability to save the game anytime. But that's just a review, right? I think I might try to play it sometime in the future, provided I can find the CD somewhere in my house.

He has a writing style that puts some people off. Friday was a good story but his writing made it tough to finish. If you look at his stuff though, he really is an amazing author. I'd put him on the pedestal with Burroughs, Asimov, and Tolkien I have erected in my den... I mean figuratively in my mind, yeah that's it:)

I'd like to see those three guys have dinner together. Asimov and Tolkien might get along really well, but Burroughs could make the meal very interesting.

Yeah, he is an amazing author. You know, I also find that I'm more on the fantasy side of the whole Sci-fi/fantasy thing, because I have also never finished a book by Asimov or Niven. That may have something to do with it too. I have been meaning to read the John Carter of Mars books, if I can ever find them, though.

There's hardly a used bookstore in the US without 1/2 to the full series sitting there for 50 cents a paperback. It's a great read, you'll realize it's pretty formulaic, but we already knew that anyway.

Haha, yeah. Doesn't help that I'm pretty much flat broke though.
Oh, that game was fun. Then again, I was a fan of the movie and book by the time that game came out and got it for my birthday or so many years ago. I still love it to this day.
How come the humans don't use tanks or other kinds of armoured vehicles in the Starship Troopers movie? The bugs wouldnt be able to touch them.

They forgot to pack them
O.o

This may play somewhat like warzone 2100

Thing is though, Ill prolly only buy it if it comes on GOG :3
I have an ironic love for Starship Troopers. Everything about it is just so perfectly terrible. Of course their future version of football is incredibly lame and toddler-like. Of course Neil Patrick Harris does a complete 180 on his personality halfway through the movie, with no good reason. Of course Casper van Diem still falls for the stupid slut, even after she led him along and dumped him just like that.

There are also brilliant spots of half-assed writing/directing almost everywhere you look. I love that they went for the low-rent Gary Busey relative. The pacing is wonderfully broken (They're cracking jokes when we're supposed to feel sympathy for Rico's troubles). I've heard rumors that the director didn't even finish reading past the first few chapters in the book (which, if true, is incredibly arrogant and hilarious). Let's not forget the completely out-of-place shower scene, or any time Busey opens his mouth and breaks the English language.

It also has two of my favorite actors; Clancy Brown and Michael Ironside (Even though he's drunk half the time these days, he is still one of my favorite action stars).

Sorry if my grammar is bad tonight. It's late, but I had to chime in about the movie.

Honest answer? They ran out of budget for the effects.
I blame the Mormons for Buenos Aires, If they hadn't ignored federal warnings we wouldn't be at war with the bugs.

(Would you like to know more?)

drmlessgames: The movie was a giant turd.

orcishgamer: The movie was okay but only drew the setting from the book. The book was a deep, insightful social commentary, the movie was a parody of our current society.
ANd not all the clever a parody. The Satire in the film was, IMHO, obvious and not that funny.
Heinlein has not fared well in the movies. "THe Pupper Masters" film which came out a couple of years after Starship Troopers was another failure.
