Hi, I'm Garry Gaber, the developer of the game, and wanted to first thank you all for the kind words about the project, and also to answer some of the questions and flames (I mean observations)... :)
Vagabond/Navagon - we have well-placed "sleeper" agents around the world, ready to be activated with a simple catchphrase. Vagabond was one of those. The trigger words were "Starlight Inception Kickstarter". :)
Aningan - Implausible, not impossible - it is a story, after all. The thing is that in our story framework, World War III was a lot like World War II and wars since then - my feeling is that nukes just wouldn't be used during the war - after all, once you start using those kinds of weapons, you really are kind of throwing in the towel and saying you don't want to win - after all, you've turned the planet into a cinder - you aren't really going to have much to lord over. So we survive World War III and because we're human, there are nations who (foolishly) feel that they can win a World War IV.
tfishell - love the idea, especially the side scrolling, but I've heard that the Walking Dead license is already being used for a game...
doady - because we know that today's audiences are varied, the answer is "a little of both, and neither". There will be different experiences for a casual gamer who wants a quick little shoot em up, and the hardcore game who wants a much deeper experience. We have a strategy to deliver both in the same game, though not at the same time.
Navagon - the game takes place within the confines of our Solar System. We can use Einstein-Rosen bridges to jump between planets, but not far enough to go to other systems or galaxies, so it isn't intergalactic. Although we have colonies throughout the planets of the Solar System, there are no alien colonies, so it isn't really an interstellar war. The only people participating are inhabitants of Earth and Earth people on colonies. Therefore, a World War. I guess.
Hopefully you guys like our story, but there is a full mode in the game that you can play where you don't even touch the story. Any way, please do check out the Kickstarter page at www.tinyurl.com\starlightkick and help support us if you can - every little bit helps us reach our goal and make this game more of a reality.
Kindest Regards,
Garry
