I'm going to be "that guy" and beg for you to help fund this. So, please, help fund it.
Bloody spammer! You registered nearly 4 years ago just so you could post this today, didn't you? Don't lie! Confess, dammit!

This is A WELL-PLANNED OPERATION.
You assume the role of a young space fighter pilot assigned to the star carrier U.S.F. Independence, deploying to hotspots throughout the Solar System during World War IV.
Well that's implausible....
I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones. ~ Albert Einstein
:D
Looks like I'll have to wait a few years to kickstart my zombie sidescrolling shooter, complete with a Southern sheriff, a crossbow enthusiast, and a kid with a pet bear.
A version for PS Vita? Is it really going to be a space sim or more of an action/arcade-style game?

Aningan: Well that's implausible....
I think you're overlooking the obvious. This is a space sim set to the backdrop of a world war.

World.

War.

Surely it would be a galactic war? Or something more along those lines? I'm hoping that the story isn't going to be the main selling point.
Hi, I'm Garry Gaber, the developer of the game, and wanted to first thank you all for the kind words about the project, and also to answer some of the questions and flames (I mean observations)... :)

Vagabond/Navagon - we have well-placed "sleeper" agents around the world, ready to be activated with a simple catchphrase. Vagabond was one of those. The trigger words were "Starlight Inception Kickstarter". :)

Aningan - Implausible, not impossible - it is a story, after all. The thing is that in our story framework, World War III was a lot like World War II and wars since then - my feeling is that nukes just wouldn't be used during the war - after all, once you start using those kinds of weapons, you really are kind of throwing in the towel and saying you don't want to win - after all, you've turned the planet into a cinder - you aren't really going to have much to lord over. So we survive World War III and because we're human, there are nations who (foolishly) feel that they can win a World War IV.

tfishell - love the idea, especially the side scrolling, but I've heard that the Walking Dead license is already being used for a game...

doady - because we know that today's audiences are varied, the answer is "a little of both, and neither". There will be different experiences for a casual gamer who wants a quick little shoot em up, and the hardcore game who wants a much deeper experience. We have a strategy to deliver both in the same game, though not at the same time.

Navagon - the game takes place within the confines of our Solar System. We can use Einstein-Rosen bridges to jump between planets, but not far enough to go to other systems or galaxies, so it isn't intergalactic. Although we have colonies throughout the planets of the Solar System, there are no alien colonies, so it isn't really an interstellar war. The only people participating are inhabitants of Earth and Earth people on colonies. Therefore, a World War. I guess.

Hopefully you guys like our story, but there is a full mode in the game that you can play where you don't even touch the story. Any way, please do check out the Kickstarter page at www.tinyurl.com\starlightkick and help support us if you can - every little bit helps us reach our goal and make this game more of a reality.

Kindest Regards,
Garry

I assume your Google Alert-Fu is mighty. Welcome to the forums! It's always nice to have devs around. ;)
Any chance of a DRM free version?
So far the most interesting of these newfangled kickstarter projects.
Hi all - this is Melissa, VP from Escape Hatch Entertainment. Thank you so much for making this a great first day (and going) for Starlight Inception. It means a lot to us to have you out there talking.

@all of you: thank you for the discussion and support!
@gameon: We definitely listen and will implement if possible
@nijuu: The $15 pledge is the DRM free digital copy of the game

Keep those comments coming!

Oooh now that's clever, in soviet russia, voice actors are paying YOU! :-P

Anyway, it looks really cool, I just recently thought it would be cool if a new space sim came out (and I really hope you'll do something unique, because everything else was done in Freespace 2 engine.) Shame I hardly got money for food and useless trinkets like that.

Please stop pretending you're not involved in these projects, posters. Dishonesty gets you nowhere.

Anyway in all seriousness I'm torn between pledging $30 and $15. Hmmm still have 35 days to consider. I've also added this into the first post of this thread.

Heh that's one of the cool things to stick around for in the General discussion forum. Nice to have devs jumping in to chip in with input every now and then.
