DavidG88: ... Though these films are probably the last nail in the coffin for SGU. That part makes me really sad. If they do a great job in theaters maybe we'll get another tv series. I hope it does well.

DeMignon: To be honest, I'd rather like to see SGU continue :-/
It was slowly starting to find its legs, and had some potential to become its own thing. Alas, there's plenty of other, even better, shows that met the same fate :(
I'd prefer it if Hollywood would come out with something original for a change. Loved the first movie and series... but I won't be watching this.
I love SG-1. I do enjoy the movie too. If they just kept the series to SG-1 the cosmos would be a better place.
I'm not sure how they can make a movie work. But if they enclude a faster paced script, that could help.
And spaceships and pew pew lasers could help it too. I like views of space from spaceship windows.
I'd rather see reboots of a few other sci-fi series (Farscape, Firefly, Babylon 5, Space Above and Beyond), but any sci-fi series is welcome in my opinion, even reboots, as long as they are done well.
I'm just thankful the Syfy channel is showing sci-fi again, now they just need to get rid of ghost hunters, big foot hunters, monster movies, and wrestling.
A reboot by the original maker of the franchise. That doesn't happen very often. Very peculiar.

Anyway, I always welcome more Stargate. Still love the original movie despite its corniness. SG-1 was good fun, though I much preferred Atlantis. Yet I did like how it all kind of built on each other and mixed some characters from the older show into it. I also very much enjoyed the two seasons of the unfortunately cancelled SG Universe.

So yeah, I'm all for it. I rather have this than the franchise staying dead, especially since Stargate is one of my favorite sci-fi universes.

Spinorial: The only reason people still care about Stargate is SG-1. The original movie was... okay, I guess. But it has almost no crossover with the series. By the sound of things, the idea for these new movies is again to be some action-packed summer blockbuster thrill-ride. Even going by that alone, forgetting the series entirely, I can't get too excited. When I watch a movie from that era, I am always surprised by the moderated pacing and overall watchability of it, if only due to the limitations of the time. I can still sit down and enjoy it. Nowadays, directors seem to lose themselves in the spectacle of explosions and effects, liberally enabled and overindulged by modern technology.

By all that I mean to say: all well and good for them, but there's nothing for Stargate fans to be excited about here.
Talk for yourself pal. I love the film and have done since it was released.

Ironically your statement is the same comment people make every 5 minutes in a movie board.

Guess that's why I rarely watch any new movies ;)
Looking forward to seeing what the creator has in store. I enjoyed SG-1 and the lore presented in all 3 shows, but it'll be interesting to see what he wants to do with Stargate.

That is probably a good thing. Though tbh there have been some good remakes/reboots that have came out that just get a bad rep because it's "not like the original". For example the new Robocop was pretty cool twist on the story.
I think I have to agree with a few people here :

Druther they give SGU a proper finish first, rather than try to come up with a whole new mythos from wholecloth.

As for reasons, I'd expect they hope the new film does well enough to spawn another series like SG1 (7-10 years long, making hundreds of millions of dollars, if not billions).

BSG remake-come-reboot wasn't too bad, but the original still holds a special place in my heart.
I really do hope this won't be an abortion like most attempts are, but I'll not be holding my breath, given Hollywood.
As long as its the SG1 timeline and not the others im OK with it

Add Star Wars in that list please. Goddamn the prequals ruined so much, and the expanded universe was all over the place.

Last thing we need anywhere is more bubbling starwars fans. Despite some piss poor acting from Hayden the films were not as bad as people like to make them out to be.

I own the Prequals on DVD and just rew-watched the prequals and wow the Phantom Menace sucked, it sucked so bad. (Except the Music and the Jedi/Sith fight) Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith sucked less especially when combined with the Clone Wars 2003.
I suppose reboots are easier to market and have higher expectations than doing something original out nothing.

just like with games.
