Gundato: And to provide further support for the fear that the Starcraft formula might actually be a bit too dated, ActiBlizzard has said that there will be no reviews prior to launch.
There are reasons for this (Battle.net is a big part of this, and a major update is going up with the game) and reasons against this (the SP doesn't need that).
And a more cynical person might argue that Blizzard realize that most sales are pre-orders and 0-day purchases and don't want to risk losing those. Have to beat Modern Warfare 2 somehow :p

KavazovAngel: The game will be a huge success, reviews or no reviews. I've played the Beta, it really, really beats the crap out of most new games. Its polished, balanced, exciting, beautiful...
Go Starcraft 2, go! :fanboy:
One thing that really bothers me, some people made a HUGE deal of this trailer. This is mainly to give some spoilers about the story, not show what the game is like. Look at other games' trailers. They all sure DO NOT show what the game is like.

Oh, it will definitely sell like hotcakes, no matter what. Blizzard, like Valve, could crap in a box and probably make a AAA game as far as sales are concerned :p
But I also can understand Blizzard wanting to keep any actual opinions from the people who actually NEED an opinion (didn't play the beta, aren't obsessed with *craft, etc :p) for as long as possible.
If ActiBlizzard can beat the MW2 sales with either this or Black Ops, Infinity Ward's departure will be negated, and Respawn (or whatever they are calling themselves) will have their work cut out for them. So any trick that will help increase sales of SC2, I see them taking (and this is a good trick).

Faithful: I think Total Annihilation was produced around the same time (not sure though) and I liked how it played much better, so I spent my time playing it.

IIRC TA was released a year or two before SC.

klaymen: 31 march 98 - Starcraft
30 sept 97 - Total annihilation
This surprised me! actually from memory I would have sworn SC came out before, old age finally catching up with me I guess(or maybe it's to many late nights playing Civ)

Wow, where did that come from? I am not aware of any Blizzrad or Valve games that have been any less than great. I admit I'm a big Valve fan, but I believe it's with good reason: all their games are really good, with great support, and really cheap (especially during Steam sales).
I'm not a Blizzard fan because their games never really got to me, but I know a good game when I see one, even though I'm not able to enjoy it.

I think hes referring to the brand power Blizzard has. Its true though, I have several friends who, (ugh) only will play Blizzard games. I point them to many other great games that have come out recently, but they ignorantly refuse to try them.
I admire Valve for at least being innovative and affordable, but Blizzard games as of late are neither. I admire the craftsmanship of the their games, but they're really doing nothing to push the medium forward. If I want to play a 1998 game, I will play one (and probably buy it from GoG :-) ).

I'd say that the map editor is very innovative. The single player setup looks to be fairly novel as well.

You can add me to that list too. :)
Valve games + Blizzard games + real life stuff = no time for other games. TF2, SC2, WC3, WoW, AS... who really needs another game. :D

Fenixp: Please stop attacking Gundato whenever he posts. Fell free to not respond to him at all, or - his posts if you hate him so much, but keep the discussion on a certain level of politeness.
Plainly said: Gundato tends to piss me off, but you're doing it double so with this little 'resistance' of yours.

Let's keep it plain and simple shall we?
Gundato is a troll. If he posts kneejerk crapatto just to irritate, which he does, constantly, in every thread, regardless of subject, then I can tell him to take a long hike off a short pier if I so choose. He's had it coming for way too long.

stonebro: ...

And what do you think you are going to achieve by attacking him at every opportunity, apart from looking like a complete dick? It's not going to stop him from posting his opinions, nor is it going to change how other people receive him around the forums. It is sure as hell going to change how other people around the forums receive YOU for that matter. You are acting irrationally and are effectively degrading overall quality of discussion around the forums. If you have steam to blow off, go do it on some kind of chat room. If you feel HE'S the one degrading quality of discussion, don't join him. If there's a new user lengthly arguing with him, I can see a point in you enlightening him of your opinion about Gundato, as long as you keep it at least at some levels of politeness. However, this is pointless and completely unnecessary. That's all I'm going to say to the matter.

Yeah, basically. Valve and Blizzard pretty much tend to always make quality games. Even people who hate the games tend to have good things to say about it (unless they are just looking for things to hate).
So yeah, Valve or Blizzard could take a huge dump in a box and sell it. It might make their next game harder to sell, but I suspect we would get a GOTYE and a few re-releases of said box of fecal matter :p

They haven't made a game since WoW until now, so there aren't really any "Blizzard games of late" until StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty releases on Tuesday. And WoW definitely did innovate the MMO, even if I personally don't like the game.
(And yes, there are many crap "Activision games of late" and Activision-Blizzard Inc. is the company that produces both brands, but Activision seems to be doing what it always did and Blizzard what it always did.)
Fukkin' hell. Two days.
TWO DAYS
