Well, I try not to buy into the hype these days, but I would like to know if someone has a firm answer what form of DRM does SC2 employ?
I would like to pick it up but not if it is DRM heavy. I would like to get the collectors edition for the SC1USB, but not sure if that has DRM as well.
Any help would be, well, helpful! :o)

AFAIK StarCraft 2 requires a one-shot Internet activation and a Battle.net account and then you can play Campaign offline all you want. Dunno about the other modes. Don't worry about Blizzard shutting down the activation servers any time soon: they're still releasing patches for StarCraft 1. Incidentually, I understand the USB contains the same game as if you bought, registered and downloaded a disc copy of StarCraft 1, and thus is DRM-free.

Starcraft 1 is DRM-free. Except for a simple serial number check, but I would not call that DRM. You don't need to have internet connection to install / run the game or anything. You can even register the key to your Battle.Net account, and you can download the game from there whenever you like, how much you like.
Starcraft 2 is split in two ways. You need a Battle.Net account and internet connection (obviously) to play online matches. That is the only DRM in the game. The single player mode is DRM-free, you can log in as a "guest" account, the game has that feature, and the only thing missing would be the achievements / stats / avatars and stuff like that that you can unlock during your gaming.
Do you use Steam or Impulse? Have you registered there with your real name? Because Battle.Net is also a distribution service for Blizzard's games. You will NEVER be required to show your real name in-game or stuff like that. The only function related to it is the Facebook / friends integration, which is OPTIONAL. :)

No, I do not use Steam or Impulse but I have no trouble registering if my name will not show. Thanks for the help.

By the way, you register your name for the Battle.Net account, so that you have proof that the games on that Battle.Net account belong to you. Its something like Amazon and similar websites / services.
To add up some more, the RealID bitching made things worse. The service is optional, and only people to whom you GIVE your email address will know your real name in-game. Nothing freaking serious, since I doubt you'll just throw your email with which you registered to Battle.Net to people you don't know.
Oh and if you have friends playing WoW or SC2, the RealID stuff is a must! Its fun chatting cross-realm in WoW, or cross-game with fellow SC2 / WoW friends.
But as usual, some people like to hate stuff for no reason (the whole implementation of RealID, even if they never use it). :)
