Yep, fucking awesome. And this is what everyone gets!

It's also nice that if the organizer doesn't like the outcome of a tourney all they have to do is pull the cable and declare a rematch...

here's the link with a video.
Yey! This will be a fun shitstorm.

I still don't care about LAN, though.
Thanks!

Nothing to see here, move along
The ironic thing is that what happened in this case would have affected the game in LAN all the same, it has nothing to do with it not allowing LAN.
According to IPL organizer David Ting the computer lost connection to the local network, which would have killed the game even if both computers were networked locally, but that didn't stop the audience from breaking into a rousing chant of "We want LAN"
Edit: Curse you SimonG! *waves fist* xD

It just shows that even with LAN there's no guarantees your game will stay connected, although obviously it'll be under your control more. I personally have no need for it though and I think having people link up through the internet makes far more sense. But for a competitive environment I can see how ideally you'd want to limit the ways a game can be interrupted as much as possible.

They also were lying on stage in the video about what the people were yelling audibly in the background... they have massive motivation to kiss Blizzard's ass in this case and can't be relied upon to be forthright about the real issue.

If there *was* LAN, then there would be no question, would there?
I have learned a lot about Chicago's' subway / L-Train system today

That may be true but that would just be an assumption at this point.

Well, I'm not assuming that they lied in the video about what the fans were chanting, as if they couldn't understand it. And even if this was caused by a LAN failure this shit could easily be caused by an internet failure and it could lead to another upset. All for something that doesn't actually help the "game", just Blizzard.

Still, my money is on a cover up, if you are an event organizer you cannot make Blizzard look bad at this point.

EDIT: I should also point out that it's way less likely for a local network to get suddenly fucked over the internet connection. At least that's my experience with LANs, even ad hoc ones. They either work (and keep working) or they don't work at all. It's the internet that tends to go "spotty" on you.

Additionally, with LAN play the network would have likely been set up in a very different and way less complex manner.

IT's not possible to lost connection through LAN unless somebody pulled the plug literally.

I had LAN connection with my first internet provider, and LAN remained live even when the net connection was dead.

They could have done a stupid thing and used wireless. Also, my router restarts itself every two-three days (although that's a sign of being a shitty one).

I watched the whole Final ...and still I don't think he had issues with the internet.
Deffo MarineKingPrime is a monster in SC2 e-sports atm,but that game he screwed up.

Strangely couple a days ago on GSL Code S match between MVPGenius & Quantic_NaNiWa - the keyboard on NaNiWa's PC went dead... luckily that happened on the first 5secs of the match :D
