thebum06: I suggest you have a lot of spare time before you join one. At least my experience from the beta was that they take way longer than dungeons in most other MMOs, even if you're above the recommended amount of party members.
I really think it took me 3 hours to clear the very first dungeon in a 4 man group (and the dungeon was even advertised as a 2 man dungeon). It was pretty fun though, and I like the way they did the group conversations.
Thanks for the heads up. I won't even dabble with them until I finish the story, which ones assumes will take me all the way until I leave the country for a year.

The dungeons are kind of a part of the storyline in that they're presented as a part of the main story line, but you're given the option of skipping it if you prefer not doing it. You won't miss out on much by skipping it, it's just a side story with no impact on the main story at all.

Cool. I remember somewhere reading that you can go back and do them later as well, if you get in the mood to team up.

Yes, you can repeat them as much as you want, and you can go back to do them anytime.

StingingVelvet: I do want to try some dungeons and stuff though, so I will have to group eventually.

I'm not playing currently, but I think one of my friends is getting it for me for Christmas. He's been asking me to join him for a while now, but I told him I didn't want to pay that much for the game as there are better and cheaper games I'd rather pay for.
What? That's terrible! 3 hours for an instance flies in the face of everything MMOs have learned in the last decade, and not in a good "shaking things up" sort of way.

That was my thought as well. I expected it to be shorter. Now, we did waste a lot of time with people not quite being sure what to do (being the first dungeon as second day beta testers), so it would probably have been done in 1.5 hours if everything went as it should. But the things we wasted time on would probably be things you'd also waste time on the first time you play a dungeon.

For example, in order to progress the dungeon everyone needs to talk to the NPCs, and if just one person wanders off everyone else have to wait for that person to get back. This waiting time really adds up, since during the dialogues you also have to wait for everyone to make a selection at the dialogue wheel in order to continue the conversation.

StingingVelvet: Was the part of the collector's thing? I was like "okay $20 for... what? Some items?" Pretty hilarious if anyone bought it.
Yup.
The Star Trek MMO failed when it took what is essentially a naval exploration based show and troed to make it into an "Everyone geys to be a Jedi" style MMO. The fact that a ship is run by a single player is apalling
The perfect inspiration would habe been silent hunter III, with a different player at each bridge and engineering position. But of course, that way would mean not everyone was a captain.
Wish they did a new Kotor, don't have time for MMO's anymore.
The only flashpoint/instance/dungeon I did during beta took me one and a half hour, tops, in a two-player group. It was pretty fun, as I recall.
