Don't play at launch, that's just a Bad Idea

cw8: I want a offline singleplayer version of The Old Republic.

Wishbone: So basically, you also want KoTOR3?
Yes, both.

I won't go back to paying to play any game. Having an infant daughter keeps me more aware of what my time is worth. I feel pressure to get the most for my $15 / month.

Now, if it goes F2P so that I can play at my leisure, count me in!

Yeah 90% of MMO's tank in the first few months. Give it 3 months. People will be out of "ZomgZisissoCooL!!!" hype mode and actually start seeing the game for what it actually is, the mechanics will surface and the longevity of the game will start showing, as well as the population info, whether it's actually stable or dropping like a rock.
I was really looking forward to SWTOR. Development delay + no release info were gradually killing my interest. And when I saw this price today...

no, thank you BW.
130 quid and it doesn't even include a lifetime subscription? You kidding?

I wouldn't necessarily mind giving this game a go, but just like some others here, I'll probably pick it up a couple of months down the line when it's 20 pounds.

Yeah, the biggest test IMHO is to see how the online team responds to issues. How long till tickets get resolved, how long till a fix is published, how long do the servers go down when they need to, how quickly do they balance classes that need attention? etc.

And... after 3 months, if you haven't heard anything about the next update... that is a good warning as well.

Star Wars has so much Lore behind it, it will die slower than others. Many will stay just to be IN Star Wars... happens right now with LOTRO. LOTRO isn't horrible, but horrible decisions and support IN that game are often over looked because the lore is so rich.

People said exactly the same thing about Star Trek Online and we all know how that ended up.

Actually, I don't. I see the game is online. You can play it right now. Not sure what you are referring to, I said it will die SLOWER than others, I didn't predict it would tank or last forever. I only said it will last longer than another, equal in quality title, would because of the background the game has going in.

They've just released Season 4 and made an optional change to ground combat giving it a fps vibe. The company making it has been bought for millions of dollars by Perfect World. There's lots of new releases. It's doing all right.

amcdermo: It's doing all right.
Doing 'all right' simply isn't good enough, not for a franchise as big as Star Trek. Cryptic's usual fetch-quest heavy gameplay and WoW mechanics have made the game an also-ran when it should have been much, much more. More than a few people predict STO will go F2P within the year. STO was expected to sell millions and have millions of subscribers by now but has a few thousand at most largely due to the total waste of the IP. By the looks of it TOR will go exactly the same way given that previews of the game have called it WoW with a Star Wars skin and Bioware conversation wheel.
I just noticed I'm supposed to additionally pay for the right to pre-order.
Cool. ><
I went from wanting to buy the game to most probably not getting. I'm not that keen to give EA that much money especially when they're my most hated company and I wanted to see them fall for years now.

Delixe: Collectors Edition - £129.99
Origin Digital Deluxe - £59.99
Standard Ediion - £44.99

Add the subscription cost on that and I will pass thank you.
Now add another £5 for pre-ordering.

Dammit lol. I was sooo late I didnt even see this post. gah
Wow that stinks having to pay £5 for a pre order. EA is just milking this game for its name it seems lets try and get money back we invested by charging people to wait for their copy.

I think EA is going to lose a lot of potential buyers with their prices and charges to order a copy.

After seeing Mass effect 3 Digital deluxe verson for £55 on origion i knew now that EA is just getting so greedy they dont care about their customers only the £ they get.
