I don't wanna rain on anyone's parade or anything, but most likely, I'll never watch this. There are so few movies I watch anymore, not when I've got so many other things I can do that I'd much rather anyway. Still, for those of you that will, I hope it's going to be good.

Pointless announcement is pointless?

Sure.
So, unlike Colt .45, it looks like Billy Dee does not work every time.
Meh, Mark Hamill probably won't have any major party, they'll just drop him in s fanservice as the Jedi master at the Temple for one scene or something.
I'm looking forward to watch this. In cinema.

Hopefully he has a small role. He played as much of a part in my childhood as Luke, Chewy and Leia (although Han obviously made me the person I am today)

F4LL0UT: It's hilarious to see Max von Sydow among the new cast members. He could have easily played one of the more mature characters in the original trilogy (he's older than the actor who portrayed the Emperor in both trilogies!). Plus he's the only actor from the new cast I actually know.
That was my immediate thought as well.

He's an awesome actor though, and always seems to pop up in the most unexpected roles. My guess is that he'll be playing some kind of Jedi Council elder, as he's a bit old to be jumping around (his most recent roles have been fairly 'static'). Then again, the same could have been said of Ian McDarmid and Christopher Lee in the prequel trilogy, and despite the extensive of use of CGI for their stunts, the raw footage showed that they still needed to be quite nimble.

If you look at Christopher Lee's roles nowadays though (The Hobbit, Hugo Cabret, Dark Shadows), he's usually sat or standing in one place, not moving around much.
So guessing who will be what in the new film?. The only ones of the *new* cast i recognise is Mr Von Sydow & Mr Gleeson (didnt he have bit parts in a few films including 300 and the latest movie linked to that? - sure looks like one of the dudes)?
Please God not JJ. I mean not only is he the director, which is bad enough but, the love of God, he's the writer too.

I think he may have a bigger part, he was the protagonist x3, after all.
Princess (Queen?) Leia on the other hand... She and her Disney-future predicting hairdo was more or less a damsel in this distress. And she never had a cult following like Hamill and Ford.

I think her role can be an extended cameo. Something along the lines:

Han Solo: "Damn. We're in trouble. Time to call the committee to plan the next move."
Leia: "You called me?"

(+ few more meaningless line in between CGI space battle actions scenes)

Yes. Exactly.
I still try to forget ever seeing his first Star Trek movie.

As far as the second Star Trek movie goes, I was building up my courage for months to actually go to see the movie. I failed, and never did.
I am cautiously pessimistic about the movie. The newbie casting is a bit of a yawn. However its somewhat nice of the older cast reappearing. However with J.J. Abrams at the helm of this...ehhh.

With the damage they done already with KOTR and the ilk declaring them non cannon. I'm not too happy with how the franchise is shaping. However I will cave in to the dark side of the force and will watch the movie when it comes out and only hope I won't be more dissapointed than usual.

jcoa: If Ghost Anakin shows up in the new trilogy, will they use the old one or the young Anakin from the prequels like they did in Episode 6 since it went on dvd?
They will introduce a new actor for Anakin (for flashbacks and stuff) and then digitally edit it into each Anakin scene in the previous movies, this time including the moment when Luke removes Vader's mask.

PixelBoy: Princess (Queen?) Leia on the other hand...
Queen of what? An asteroid belt?
The good thing of course is that these movies are almost guaranteed to be better than the prequels (I mean can you get worse?) so there is no high expectations.
