Seeing as it is for under 4 (choose your currency) at D2D, anyone here played it?
I have (no idea where the disc is now) the first game and it was nice to see the SW world from close. I only played it single player, but it still felt ok for a few hours.
Is the sequel really better and worth it? I read there are also space battles this time, true? Is the single player part of the game at least as good as the first game or is it as bad as in say Battlefield 2?

Oh, and do people still play it online?

I liked it (and I only played single player). It's akin to Battlefield 2, in fact, but generally fun, specially when you unlock the special characters. Space battles are a nice diversion, and the ability to take a ship, fly into an enemy ship, and then get out on foot to invade it is very nice.
It does have a campaign, which I found fun. For 4 bucks, it's a steal.
All that said, I can't compare it to the first game, as I never played it. And I never tried multiplayer.

I don't frikking believe it! What the hell is wrong with D2D and Ireland being a restricted IP?? First Ubisoft now Lucasarts. NOT. HAPPY.

Personally, I really liked this game. Definately worth $4. I thought it was better than the first Battlefront. I really liked the campaign with the backstory it gave to the Star Wars universe. I had a blast with the multiplayer, especially with the areas where you can only play as heroes. Playing Boba Fett and Han Solo was a lot of fun. Jabba's Palace with the Gamorrean guards in it was my favorite area.
I played it on the Playstation 2 though so I can't say what online play will be like or what mods and patches to get. That is one of the few things I like about a console game; I can pop it in, sit down with some friends and blast away years later without worrying if people still play it online or not.

I like to compare it with Unreal Tournament series. The first got everything right and the second tries too hard.
I still like the game but it have lost that special "it" that made the first great.

That's a main thing but I dunno. It felt rushed. Not in the sense that it was released before it was ready but things like the maps felt bland. The touch wasn't there and I'm not saying that because I'm tired of the series, still playing the first from time to time.
It's subjective. The first had great controls, classes, maps and very nice map packs. The second somehow felt like it didn't. Somehow. I need to play it again to truly make sense of what I'm trying to say. :P

I suppose I can understand that. But even now when playing the first one I get kind of a buzz when I hear "Commander Skywalker has joined the battle". Making the Jedi a special class just made them meh to me.

Yeah I got the feeling that I was in the story/universe of the movies and was part of shaping its history when that happened. The only movie to game title that have made me felt like that and few pc games (Without connections to other media types.) manage that.

Never released on PC sadly but if you still have a console then track down a copy of The Lord of The Rings: The Third Age. Sounds like something you would be interested in. If you liked the movies of course. Not a bad review

I've never had a console but there's always emulators. :P
