If Valve/GamersGate, etc., wanted to, they could certainly cash in on this by offering to convert Impulse versions in to their version... Wouldn't be the first time something like that happened (look at what happened with Prey and Steam when Triton went bust).
Still, I'm glad to see devs. finally taking a stand against something they don't like.

It's hard to argue with their reasons. Good on them.

I for one applaud people who stand by their principles, so good for them.
Just for that, I'll look at their game and buy it if it actually looks decent.
I doubt they'll be followed by many others though.

It's good to see a developer stand by their principals. This is something far more likely to gain my support than developers & publishers who have little in the way of a moral compass and no interests other than turning a profit.

Well, i asked the developer of Academagia about this .
At first, we thought this was a well-timed April Fool's joke- but it definitely seems real now. :)
I just read about Blind Mind Studio's reaction, and I'm not sure we agree with it- although GameStop's record on PC gaming (and indie gaming) is unpleasant and lamentable. We've been looking at how GameStop changed practices over at Kongregate, as a first indicator of how things might change at Impulse, and *so far* it appears to have been a generally hands-off approach. If this holds true for Impulse, the end result could be a better form of the software service, just as indie-friendly, but benefiting from GameStop's position in the brick 'n' mortar retail world.
I think it's too early to judge whether this is a good thing, or a bad thing for consumers and developers. As for Brad Wardell's decision, it's unfortunate from our standpoint, but in a certain way I think he is to be admired: not just anyone could step away from the revenue that Impulse generates to refocus his company back onto games...that's an integrity of a sort rarely seen in any industry. :)
Fascinating times we live in, though, wouldn't you say? :)

I don't know, I really didn't see Impulse on it's way up.
Check the forums, There's barely people there and most of the active threads there are all about negative experiences or complaints about Region locks, emails for games people can't buy, regional pricing etc etc, and they've been there for ages
From my admittedly shallow observation, it didn't look like a prospering venture.
