Was interested in this game when I first saw it, due to Roberts of Wing Commander fame.

As soon as I saw the multiplayer microtransaction crap I closed the page, and never looked back. That crap will never get a dime from me.

cw8: I only backed for the single player campaign or something like that, hoping for something like X3. What I'm really looking forward to is X-Rebirth, if it sucks, I can always fall back to X3TC and AP.
Ditto :). Though right now X-Rebirth looks more like Freelancer than X3
Wow, you were used to pay for a video game in its friggin' complete package, ONCE, now you need to purchase a SINGLE FUCKING SHIP to please the developers and "enjoy" the gaming world. Until the servers will be put off-line, clearly.

Well, if this is the gaming future, I say go fuck yourself, future O_o

I agree fully
I don't think you necessarily have to buy any extra ships, nor pledge at all at this point since the game will be made either way. LTI seems more like a quality of life perk than a must have on all ships, since you'll be able to insure them in game by normal means.

Are they milking as much as possible out of people? Hell yeah. Can't really blame them since the consumers keep throwing money at their screens. In the long run the more crowdfunding the game gets, the more likely they're able to push out a good game.

What's not to like? Let the big sharks buy all the ships before launch and lose out on the fun part that is the actual journey of obtaining and upgrading the ships during gameplay :)

I pretty much agree. Why can't it just be an improved version of Freelancer? That's all I want. I have no interest in any MMO, especially if it requires regulated interactions with people. I get plenty of that in RL, thanks.

Indeed. Just gimme a X-series style graphics with the Freelancer gameplay and ill be a happy camper. Its great and all to see so many people interested in it. But the MMO part definitely killed it for me unfortunately.
Wow, they have a completionist package that contains all 14 ships... only $15,000!

This is simply disgusting.
This might be the most expensive, elitist bs game yet....the prices involved in this game are a joke.

Star Citizen: Raising the bar of Pay to Win to the stars!
What I can't figure out is why it is so expensive. I'm a total moron here so help me out. What could they possibly need all of that for? Is it a form of a kickstarter? Do they need the dough to actually make the game? Do they realize that my fucking computer doesn't cost that much?

Star Citizen is a crowdfunding project, but starting to sell while you can't play the game yet is stretching it really far, no matter what the amount is.
I pledged on day one (IRS site, not KS), cause the idea of Privateer/Freelancer remade with a Wing Commander/Star Lancer singleplayer game to boot seemed rather cool and even then I plegded only $35 dollars so I could play the game when it comes out.

I was honestly intending on buying this game until I saw this. Why would I want to play in a multiplayer game where hard earned victories can just be bought?

I'd imagine it's to encourage people NOT to just buy everything up and actually earn some things in the game. The only people spending $15,000 for stuff are rich folk in desperate need of attention, anyway. So they can have their fun of getting a few minutes of fame, and everyone else can actually play it. And at the same time, Star Citizen earns some free publicity from everyone going "Whoa, $15,000?! What is this game? I'm going to take a look."
