A friend of mine came to see me today and we got talking about the Witcher 2 and I have been on the fence about buying it for awhile, so he says why dont you try my copy because I bought it on gog a couple of weeks ago , so we are good friends and we trust each other so he gave me his account details so I could at least download his game and give it a try before I add it to my own account.

However when he'd gone and I decided to start downloading it , a pop up come up and tells me " you dont have access to this game " so I tried another game on his account and got excactly the same thing .... so is gog Drm free or what and why cant I access his games on my PC ??? , I can access his account but cant download any of his games ... and please before any self righteous trolls chip in , I always buy the games myself anyway , just wanted to try the Witcher 2 which he bought and paid for before I buy it ..

so basically yeah wtf ??

Disregarding the legal stuff, is this only happening with the Witcher 2 or does this error pop with every game on your friends account?

it pops up on every game on his account .
odd... never heard of that before.

I dont think its a problem GOG side, after all you have the login details so as far as the system would know you are your friend.

ill watch this topic it has caught my interest
You should open a help ticket with GOG sending your friends account info and explaining what the two of you are doing . . . I'm sure they will be interested in this situation. Especially since you both are ignoring the legal stuff.

Maybe some conflicts with your account? Did you try to log out from your account (clean browser cache)? Maybe your friend is logged on his account from other PC.

But it is unusual.

EDIT: I'll try to log in on my account from my father's PC using TeamViewer. See if I'll have problems with downloading my games. Give me 5 min.

EDIT2: No problem. Downloaded Slipstream5000.

That is weird. And when you come back on your account, it still let's you download or does the error persist too?

You can try clearing your cookies and all that internet stuff.

Once again, try clearing your browser cache, as Tburger said.

Try using a different browsers.

Try not to get a lawsuit, the usual.
Sometimes I'm logged on two computers and I never had any problems with it.
Pheeww just solved it !

For some reason I had to be logged into the gog downloader as him too ! ... but still strange that it allowed me to download the free ones though .... still I thought with Drm and no spyware on gog etc that it wouldn't or shouldn't matter who I'm looged in as on the downloader should it ?

maybe I'm just being paranoid now ... o_o

Of course it matters... The downloader uses your account info to see if you're allowed to get the games. Imagine everyone downloading Witcher 2 from GOG even if they hadn't paid for it.

And every single account here can get the six free games. I don't think you have to "buy" them.

Well, GoG downloader isn't mandatory, it's optional. So why even put that kind of a check on it, when everyone can download the .exe just as freely.

For the same reason you can't download the game from GOG.com via a browser without being logged into your account.

There's no DRM in the games. No online activations, no ownership checks in the installers. That doesn't mean you can download it without being logged into the site first in order to make sure you are allowed to download the game.

Just thought I would mention that the game has to be on the account first before anyone could download it yes ?

and just to add the pop up appeared when I tried the download using browser option too ;)
