acare84: I hope it will come to Steam soon.

Never buy it on steam. Ever. Get the retail version instead.
You cannot mod Stalkers on Steam and this is a very bad experience I made, reason I started to be carefully about Steam deals..
Also, trainers common under many Stalker gamers are all useless. You need a special trainer on some douchebag premium site which means you need to buy a fitting trainer for the Steam Version. How fucked up is that?!
Any news on DRM for the retail version?

If you have an issue modifying the game, simply tell Steam to not update the game anymore. Chances are it's replacing the text file which (doesn't) recognise the gamedata folder.

Weird, it doesn't work on mine.
*looks at his retail copy of Clear Sky with suspicious eyes*
I installed it for a bit, then felt lost and uninstalled it until I could play SoC. I'm going through that now but once I'm done, I wonder if I should give CS a try. It was $10 on gamestop when i visited the US (real price was supposed to be $39.99) but i hadn't read any reviews on it.
I think I read CS has TAGES but I don't know what that implies. Limited installs? If it's so bad, I shouldn't worry about that too much.

Clear Sky has TAGES disc check on retail. On Steam it was using Tages activation DRM but now it is only using Steam DRM.
Once fully patched and modded with faction commander, Clear Sky wasn't all that bad. It was a good sandbox.
I will be getting this new Stalker.
Technically, Clear Skies is a prequel to SoC. CoP is a sequel to SoC.
And I did like what CS I played, I just can't stand the pistols. And since those are my favorite fallback weapons...
If I remember correctly, there was a mod which changed the gunsights to make them more useful. It was a major complaint, especially seeing as you are limited to pistols early in the game.

I looked into a few of those. The ones I found just tweaked the FOV/positioning, so that it would be centered, but you were still looking at an offset angle.
I'm still playing through Stalker:SOC with the Stalker Complete 2009 mod. I love the bleak nature of the game setting and the open world feel.
I never gave Clear Sky a look in due to bad reviews and the use of Tages, but I may pick up CoP as it sounds quite solid.
Thanks for the heads up, OP.
The most fun I had was the AMD mod and a high res texture pack. Nights end up being scary as it's so dark without a flashlight. I remember once being ambushed by a dozen of monsters in dark valley that I was left to just a pistol after I was done.
Stealth: You may mean "AMK Mod" :p
And an update: It looks like you have more options for the sidequests now. I was able to betray someone who wanted me to kill a bunch of STALKERs, and I also had the option to steal a locked briefcase for a recovery job. Plus, spelunking in a nest of Snorks was fun :p
