The level of spiteful reviews being made is getting ridiculous. Reviews are there to help people make informed decisions about a game, not for you to air your dislike that GoG is releasing a game you don't like, or isn't releasing a game you like.

If you don't like a game that's fair enough, if you're going to write a negative review that's fair enough, register your objection, but at least have the decency to state why the game is so bad so others can decide for themselves.

One line reviews stating nothing more than "Don't buy it" are utterly useless.
Well yeah, people are idiots.
Just ignore them. They're not worth getting upset about. And no one will bother setting up a peer review process, so there's nothing we can do about them.
I don't pay much attention to one-liner reviews or reviews that boil down to, "It sucks, because it sucks because it sucks."
Why don't you like the game? Shoddy controls/camera angling? Don't like the graphics or storyline? Did the people who work on it kick your dog?

Explain reviewer explain.
I generally do ignore the reviews that lack substance, but on one of the recently released games I had to click through several pages of "Don't buy it" just to find a negative review that was at least somewhat informative.

There is a peer review process. It's called "was this review helpful". There's also a "report as spam" button. If the review is abusive (less than a sentence), don't hesitate to think of the technical definition of spam.

Personally, I'd like to see EA games with their atrocious EULAs or ten year old games sold seperate from their expansion pack receive more spite. But I do agree with the OP.

What games specifically have been getting these? Deus Ex?

The new game released today got some. "Abysmal game series (title) Do not buy", "Are you serious? (title) Don't even consider this", "Ugh (title) Terrible game. Awful game. Pointless release, and simply another step in the expanding downward spiral of allowing rubbish to clutter our beloved GOG. This game doesn't even deserve the time it would take me to write a negative review of it. It is that bad. What is going on with GOG?"

This last one is amusing considering we just got three classics.

For some reason GOG's vote system isn't working very well either - does the most helpful part only kick in after awhile? Because right now two of the ones being shown on the game card are voted as very unhelpful - especially compared to those not being shown on the front page.

Yeah, I know, but usually the best you can hope to achieve is pushing it towards the end. What I meant was a review before publishing, but GOG staff understandably doesn't have time for that and I don't think they're going to recruit volunteers for it.

I don't think GOG actually removes those one liners. I usually "report" them as spam, but afaik none have disappeared. I can understand why, I think doesn't want to be accused to "delete bad reviews to increase sales".

And those complains will come...

Conflict: Desert Storm gets that sort of hatred? That's weird... I would have thought it would be the sort of game that most people would just be "meh" about.

It's kinda funny how short the GOG collective memory span seems to be, though. A few days back it was "ZOMG GOG IS THE BEST EVAR FOR RELEASING THIEF GOLD!" Now suddenly they're on a downward spiral? ARE A FEW DAYS EVEN ENOUGH TIME TO START A SPIRAL??????????

:P

Unfortunately the most helpful vote system doesn't seem to be working very well at the moment - the ordering seems to be all screwed up so many of the unhelpful, spiteful reviews are being pushed to the front despite being ranked as unhelpful relative to the others ... odd, I wonder what is going on?

Two of the ones on the front page have votes of 16 out of 204 and 10 out of 161 versus some on page 3 (ordered by helpfulness) which have 41 out 47 or 37 out of 41. Maybe it's just me and my browser?

Yeah, that's what I also thought after reading the first bad comments.

Btw, was actually anything remotly positive posted in the thread about the Gothic 3 expansion ;-).

I think it's just part of GOG's "hands off" policy.

Nope, same here. Best guess/hope would be some sort of time delay.
