Yes its true. As of a year, I cannot bring myself to play and complete any game other than anything made by spiderweb software. I dont know why, but the games are just awesome. They are fun, they provide a challenge on normal that isnt seen in other games and to top it all off, all the games are party-based with excellent writing and story-telling.

Any of the other games I have gotten here on good old games or from other companies I will never complete. Its not that the games arent good, but mostly just that as soon as I start getting into them, I notice something Avernum or Geneforge does better. It totally sucks, but whatever.

What about anyone else on here. Has anyone ever had a company they just cant go wrong with?

Shiny Entertainment. Every single game they ever made was AWESOME! FUCKING AWESOME!!!

As of forever, I couldn't finish any spiderweb games. I've tried demos of Avernum, I bought Avadon: The Black Fortress, and I really think they are cool, have neat mechanics, interesting story and so on. But - and here's the bad bit - I really care about graphics. Now I don't care at all about technology used, I found first Unreal stunning in 2009 because of absolutely brilliant design, and I think Inquisitor looks nice.

But there's something about graphics of Spiderweb software games I just can't get over. Maybe it's weird animations, maybe it's lack of detail... I have no clue. I just can't, for the life of me, get into them. And I would really love to as well.

Why am I not surprised that they made Sacrifice?

ORLY?
DoubleFine. I haven't played every DoubleFine game, but I've heard good things about the ones I haven't played and they're just kind of awesome in general. :)

Also, if you're looking for a unique story-based game, try King of Dragon Pass. It's not really an RPG, but it is awesome.

Thats cool. You see with me, I love the oldschool graphics of Avadon and the other games. Games that look like BG1, 2, Icewind Dale 1 and 2 are my favorite type of interface but I can see why others might not like it.
Bullfrog! I enjoyed every Bullfrog game that I had played (From Populous, Hi-Octane to Theme Hospital or Dungeon Keeper). Their games become somewhat repetitive after some point, but the fun, addictive gameplay is always there.

That's exactly why I mentioned Inquisitor :-P I think Planescape looks awesome, and find some locations from IWD games to be absolutely gorgeous (generic fantasy of BG games can surprise me only ever so often.) But spiderweb software? No, just no! It's driving me crazy, I really want to play them, they're exactly the kind of RPG I love.

edit: Sorry for derailing the topic a bit, just wanted to vent

So far I liked all the titles from WadjetEye Games, never regretted paying for them (although I admit I got Da New Guys in a bundle, it's nice but not quite on the same level as the others) and I already played through most of them, but that's also because they're short. ;)

And back in the days I loved almost all the LucasArts adventures (except for MI4 maybe, and Indy3, Zak and MM are classics but I'm not sure I'd want to replay them today).

The difference is that BG 1&2 were beautiful, while Avadon looks like shit.

I too tried to get into Avadon, but the game was so ugly, and the interface so awful, that I quit the game very soon and never went back to it.

Oldschool != Ugly
Oldschool != Poor game design

I know what you mean, the graphics are just off... in some way, at least for the newer games. I really hate the Avadon graphics. With the really old Avernums or Geneforge games I have less of a problem. Anyway, Geneforge 1 was way more fun than Avadon. Need to continue with the others.

IMHO Basilisk Games does a lot better job with the Eschalon Games. The graphics are fairly minimal, too, but they fi the orverall mood of the game.

I agree with this on so many levels. For instance, to this day, I love playing certain older games like Jade Empire, or the First Fable, Septerra core, or even old psx games like Final Fantasy Tactics.

Graphics mean A LOT to me, but its not about how realistic, or shinny, or how great the face mechanics are, or how good water looks, etc. It's about how solid the graphics are. It's about how good they look, irrelevant to the bit count, or the shaders, or the model quality or mesh count. It's about weather they look nice, and esthetically appealing.

Their core games( the REAL Shiny games) is what I meant, not the ones made after the downfall...
