Yay, can't wait for it's release here on GOG.
Nice! I really like how GOG is the main DD other than Steam nowadays, they seem to be doing really well.
Yaaaay! I love Spelunky! This is wonderful news.

The only way this could be better is if the release was followed by news of an Aquaria sequel being made (hey, I can dream, can't I?).
Awesome! I didn't like the NES-esque graphics on the first one but I enjoyed the gameplay so this will be a buy for me.
I play this game and Guardian Heroes all the time on my friends 360. I will definitely purchase this on GOG.
I just saw this news myself. I can't wait the original was great and now I can pay them for the countless hours spent playing the free version of the game and get a better version. Cool beans man.

I'd put GamersGate ahead of GOG, but I share the sentiment.

Well I would have done at one time, but often now I see "Coming to Steam and GOG.com" in press releases. GamersGate seems to be doing worse and worse these days.
Is this like La Mulana?

in the sense that both are 2D platformers - yes. Other than that -no.

Spelunky is a random action rogue-like platformer

You can try the free original Spelunky here: http://spelunkyworld.com/original.html
Great game on 360, and one I would buy again for the PC
Does HD edition offer anything besides the HD?

From the official site linked above:

"It's much more than a port of the original game, and has new graphics, music, zones, monsters, items, traps, and secrets. The controls are much smoother, too, and designed specifically for the gamepad."
...
"You'll also be able to play Spelunky with friends at home! There's co-op and deathmatch."
