GOG.com and Interplay Level up!

GOG.com has been in talks with our good friends at Interplay, and we’re pleased to be able to say that we have good news! Not only are we adding four classic games from their catalog to GOG.com in the near future, but we’re also going to give you another chance to [url=http://www.gog.com/en/promo/interplay_price_change_promo_09_11_12]save big on the games we already have for the next week!

Every silver lining has a cloud, though, and the reason that we’re putting the games on sale again is because we’re raising the prices on some of the Interplay games on the 16th of November as part of our new deal with Interplay. As such, games such as Fallout, MDK, Redneck Rampage and others may never be as cheap on GOG.com as they will be this next week. If you’ve been hesitating to pull the trigger on any classic Interplay games, now’s your last chance to buy and save big!

What are the new games that we’re adding to the Interplay collection? Well, if you know GOG.com, you know what we don’t like to give away that kind of news early, but if you’re paying attention on our website--or on any of our social media channels like , [url=http://www.facebook.com/gogcom]Facebook, , [url=http://www.youtube.com/gogcom]Google+ or even just your email inbox, you’ll be sure to find out.

So pick up our last huzzay of Interplay games at $2.99 this week, and let us know in the comments below what classic Interplay games you’re hoping will show up on GOG.com early next year--or perhaps even sooner!

Fenixp: Never seen Fantasy Wars in motion, but claiming that HoMaM 5's got a bad graphics design is just dumb. You might not like it, and indeed a lot of HoMaM fans don't like the cartoony design, but it's very good, units are detailed and very well animated, it's colorful, and some cities are rightaway gorgeous.
It's also a classic example of "3d done wrong". In the underground half of the screen is obstructed by ridiculously high walls, in the towns you need to scroll in circles to access different buildings, and the UI design is horrible.

Generally, the HoMM5 graphics seem to have been designed for "pretty" screenshots, not for actually playing the game.

You should really realize that 'I don't like it' doesn't equal 'bad.'

And I won't even comment on Torchlight 2, I mean, seriously: It's just a very particular direction of design, it doesn't make it bad.
I disagree, I think there is good art and bad art, though I do not claim that there are any objective way of measuring it. But I think the cities in HoMM V look nice.

It's cheap budget design. For many people it doesn't matter but I don't think that you will find that many who are praising the graphics.

Fenixp: Methinks it's because of Bethseda gaining rights. As Bethseda proved to be quite greedy lately, I wouldn't be surprised if the only way GOG could have kept Interplay titles is raising price on them.
I might be wrong, but according to all first-hand sources I could find, Bethesda gains only the rights to the Fallout games, and Interplay can distribute those through December 2013.

It's possible (and wouldn't be unreasonable) that both GOG and Interplay want to cash in on people who want to secure a Fallout copy before the franchise changes hands though.

Roman5: More titles from Interplay? Freakin' awesome

I wonder what 4 of these titles could be...

Well one of them for sure is the MDK2 HD update but I wonder about the rest of the 3...

Let's stay tuned and find out, shall we?
I think that GOG would have to make a deal with Beamdog first before getting MDK2 HD here, since they own the rights to it. I think that it doesn't count as an Interplay game.

DukeNukemForever: More details please. Which games and which prices? What about the Fallout series, is there a solution found with Bethesda or will they be removed from the catalog?
If you want Fallout so much, grab it now, like Roman 5 said in 2 months Interplay will lose the rights to the series. Unless GOG gets a deal with Bethesda before the end of the year, which is very unlikely, these games will be removed. By the way the GOG versions of Fallout are the only ones that work correctly out of the box. Steam's versions are not optimized for modern systems and do not contain the global map fix.

de_Monteynard: Interplay will lose the rights to sell Fallout games on 31 December 2013, so there is still one year left. But you are right in saying that they want to milk the cow. But considering that having a 5.99 price point made it even more popular with gamers, increasing to 9.99 is a stupid decision on Interplay's part.
I thought Interplay would lose the rights this year, but you are right, the article on wikipedia says that Interplay will lose the rights in 31 december 2013.

F1ach: meh....half thinking of getting Sacrifice, but I just dont know if its worth it.
Licurg wans to talk to you.
avatar
DukeNukemForever: Question is if Interplay got maybe a deal with Bethesda to sell them at a higher price level. That wouid explain the new deal. But that's just pure speculation from my side, knowing that Interplay lost against Bethesda and there is a two month timeline for gog to clear the situation some more details on the topic would be interesting.
Makes sense, but GOG clearly stated that the new deal was with Interplay, not Bethesda. Also, Redneck is getting an increased price too, and that certainly doesn't belong to Bethesda.

Fuzzyfireball: Does Interplay own Blackthorne?
I don't think so, because the GBA remake was published by Vivendi, not Interplay.

_All_ first-hand sources state the date as 2013/12/31. Probably all second-hand sources as well. It would be interesting to find out where this "2012" rumor actually originated from, I cannot find a single source that it could be based on. I was pretty surprised when looking that up during the Interplay bundle promo, because I had read (and believed) statements from other people who talked about 2012 being the final year.

That should probably teach us a lesson to not blindly believe statements in a forum that don't reference their sources ...

Indeed. We have to thank people for their time and attention to point out the right date.

F*** man.... you made my bad day even worse.... That sucks that again gog would have to remove superb titles from its catalog due to some bs.....

Anyway I'm gonna grab Fallout Tactics, because thanks to this promo I discovered that this game has so much extra stuff that' it's worth buying it just for the goodies on their own.

Yay! Now you made my shitty day slightly better - I just read a few posts back about 2012 and got sad... One more year of Fallout and Interplay in Gog catalog and I will have all games I'm interested in!

Duskwolf: Does Sacrifice still have problems running on Win 7 64 bit?

SovietSharkey: Works fine for me so either they are fixed or only for certain people
Thanks. I went ahead and bought it, and everything seems to run fine.

I think that Art is just Art. It's how developers, or let's call them artists, decided to express their vision. It's how they feel, it should be made. It's your right to express your opinion if you like it or not. I also doesn't find all games visually appealing, but I would not call that a "bad art".
I may be wrong, but hadn't Interplay published the Virtual Pool series. So I hope they'll add those to the GOG catalog.GOG should really broaden the range of sports-games.
I think there are two (average) soccer-games,two chess-games and a whole lot of racing-games (I don't count Beat'em-ups like Streetfighter as form of sport).

Psyringe: in the towns you need to scroll in circles to access different buildings, and the UI design is horrible.
Agree with the underground, it's pretty horrible, and the UI can be a bit dodgy at times. But, you know, there's a reason why every building in town is accessible from the town menu as opposed to clicking it - the fact that you can click it as well is just a neat feature on top of that.

That may be, but it's pretty obvious that a lot of work went into HoMaM V and a lot of people do like it's art style, so it must have done something right, don't you think?

Are GoG versions of Fallout and Fallout 2 unique in any way in comparison to physical and digital releases elsewhere?

If somebody hasn't played them yet, games like these are the pinnacle of gaming.

They come in yellow installers with a ton of ads.
