15,504 ways to play!

Decisions, decisions, decisions. Once the holiday season gets closer, you have to decide what gifts to buy, what wrapping to use, which phone numbers to accidentally delete. There are many decisions to make as you get ready for the holidays, but one decision that we’re making easy for you is, “Should I buy anything from GOG.com’s Black Friday sale?” (The answer is “yes”, by the way. ;) Not only are we launching the sale early--in case you spend Friday in a turkey-induced coma--but we’re also giving you the power to pick your own promo!

In our Pick 5 & Pay $10 sale you pick 5 out of twenty fantastic indie games and pay $10 for them regardless of the game’s regular full price. That's $2 per game, for such titles like Torchlight, Resonance, Alan Wake's American Nightmare, Botanicula, Geneforge 1-5, Uplink, To the Moon, and many others. Seven of these games are both PC and Mac compatible, so everyone can enjoy!

The games are fantastic--and there are so many of them! That's why we started this sale early: to give you time to pick your dream-set of 5 games out of 15,504 possible combinations. You could look at this as another decision you have to make this year, but unlike trying to figure out who you should sit next to your slightly crazy uncle at Thanksgiving dinner, this one’s fun!

Black Friday marks the start of the “shopping season” for the holidays, so don’t forget to buy the gift of GOG for a gamer you love--or even just kind of like. You can’t spread much more holiday joy than this for just $10.

DaeL: This deal would be amazing if only it had more games to choose from. Like the original Alan Wake or some classical games from the Interplay catalogue. But it's still pretty interesting, and I'll probably get it.

By the way - which games would you recommend for me?

I want to buy Alan Wake's American Nightmare and Trine (loved its sequel).

I already own Botanicula, Torchlight, Uplink, Machinarium, Spacechem, Defcon, Darwinia, Anomaly Warzone Earth, Multiwinia and The Ball.

That means I have to choose three games out of eight (Resonance, To The Moon, Gemini Rue, Blackwell Bundle, Geneforge, Symphony, Mutant Mudds and Unmechanical). Any ideas which games I should pick?
To the Moon is a must try, gamer or non-gamer alike, it's only 4 hours, but it's like a beautiful movie that sucks you in. Much better than a lot of games out there that might spends hundreds of hours to finish.
If you like adventure games, you might want to try Blackwell Bundle (it's 4 games actually), Gemini Rue or Resonance, though I think it's a bit different from Machinarium and Botanicula.

jackalKnight: I'm also peeved that there's a guy on here acting like Steam is automatically one of two easy routes to go for new indies. Thanks to Steam Greenlight, it's not. Mutant Mudds (a complete game from a professional developer!) still hasn't been Greenlit there.
I no like for Steam of games!

Steam = Fart Gas
Reading the comments I get the feeling people are angry that 1:GOG is putting Idni games on sale. 2: people are buying the games on the sale.

Well sorry for being an art student with limited funds. If I see 4 games I want are on sale I'm not going to say "I must not be a parasite and only but these games separately at full price when I have 65 dollars just lying around”. I bought them legally didn't I? And surely the creators of the games wouldn't let them go on sale if they didn't feel okay about it?

mondo84: LOL why do people get so angry when GOG has a great sale like this?
Because people are stupid.
avatar
roelibex: So how does Resonance compare to Blackwell and Gemini? Cuz i really loved Gemini but absolutely hated the main character in Blackwell (played about 15 min, couldnt stand her)
Well then my advice would be useless because I preferred Blackwell to Gemini Rue.

Btw if you have the full Blackwell Saga, play Unbound - very different main character. And then play Convergence - Rosangela has had time to get used to the whole ghost thing by then.

I think we've talked about this before (like how people, including myself, were frustrated that GOG seems to, at times, put old games on the backburner for newer stuff). Originally, GOG had the stance that big sales like this were bad for the game business, because they devalued games. However, obviously that has been changing, and TET has brought that up.

Now you know. It's not really the sale so much as GOG's "going with the flow" of the industry. I'm better at accepting the big sales, since naturally GOG really does have to do what it can to survive.

Amazing promo. I haven't played much adventure/point 'n' click games so I picked Blackwell Bundle, Gemini Rue, Machinarium, Resonance and To The Moon. These games have got lot of praise so I hope they live up to the hype and make me love adventure games. :3
People complain GOG's sales aren't good enough.

GOG has better sales with higher discounts.

People complain that GOG is going with the flow.

-----------------

LOL which one is it? Should GOG stand by their earlier stance or should they evolve? No matter what they choose people criticize them for giving in, going back on their word, etc.

There's just no logic in the big picture of the complaints. Only a strange need to raise a stink every time GOG makes an announcement, releases a game, or has a sale.
It might be a bit hard to browse the thread, and I have no idea if anyone's asked, but which of these games have been in the Humble Bundles? I know Botanicula and Trine have, but no idea on the others. The reason I ask is because I've purchased most of the Humble Bundles.

Botanicula, Torchlight, Uplink, Machinarium, Spacechem, Trine, and Anomaly that I know of. There are probably more.

Trine, Machinarium, Botanicula, Darwinia, Multiwinia, Uplink, Anomaly, Spacechem, and Defcon have been in Humble Bundles.

That said, have people really been arguing for fourteen pages? On the first day of the sale? My god.

Really? I couldn't stop playing Blackwell games.
I don't get why there's 14 pages of arguing. I haven't even looked at the arguments, but I can guess at why people are being irritable.

GOG recently released one of my biggest "wish list" games, which was Bioforge. While I'm admittedly not going to buy it until it's on sale, I don't think that having Indie games, new games, etc.. on GOG is going to lessen GOG's quality any. It's just good business and makes GOG more money.

As long as GOG remains DRM free they are A-OK in my opinion.

That's the point. You're not supposed to stand her at the start. She's awkward, she's reserved, antisocial... her cases make her improve as a person.

'Course, I find this out after beating the first game with commentary, so. :p
Simon care about GOG.com. If not, he wouldn't spend his time taken GOG newest download test, or he wouldn't be here at all. It's just in real life he's a lawyer, his bread and butter. I think that's why some people here are upset with his persistence, i'm not sure if this is a generalization or not, but isn't that what you need to be in his profession? So, don't get too upset if you can't agree with his view on the subject. He's someone who always look at things objectively. Sometime, it's sharp and pierce but that's how it is.

I'm not defending him, it's not like he need any. I just think it's unfair to criticize him personally.
