15,504 ways to play!

Decisions, decisions, decisions. Once the holiday season gets closer, you have to decide what gifts to buy, what wrapping to use, which phone numbers to accidentally delete. There are many decisions to make as you get ready for the holidays, but one decision that we’re making easy for you is, “Should I buy anything from GOG.com’s Black Friday sale?” (The answer is “yes”, by the way. ;) Not only are we launching the sale early--in case you spend Friday in a turkey-induced coma--but we’re also giving you the power to pick your own promo!

In our Pick 5 & Pay $10 sale you pick 5 out of twenty fantastic indie games and pay $10 for them regardless of the game’s regular full price. That's $2 per game, for such titles like Torchlight, Resonance, Alan Wake's American Nightmare, Botanicula, Geneforge 1-5, Uplink, To the Moon, and many others. Seven of these games are both PC and Mac compatible, so everyone can enjoy!

The games are fantastic--and there are so many of them! That's why we started this sale early: to give you time to pick your dream-set of 5 games out of 15,504 possible combinations. You could look at this as another decision you have to make this year, but unlike trying to figure out who you should sit next to your slightly crazy uncle at Thanksgiving dinner, this one’s fun!

Black Friday marks the start of the “shopping season” for the holidays, so don’t forget to buy the gift of GOG for a gamer you love--or even just kind of like. You can’t spread much more holiday joy than this for just $10.

Fesin: So you're going the Fox News route of argument? "The other ones are biased too, so to balance that out, I have to be extremely biased to the other side." Not very convincing, in my opinion.
"Extremely biased" is a two edges sword, you know...
Quoted for accurate reality.. I think the last game i'v bought full price was Project Zero 2 for Wii, all the rest is either second hand for my psp/ps2/ds/wii consoles or 50 to 75 % sales for pc digital games.

jackalKnight: People on here don't seem to realize that it's common for Steam users to only buy during sales as well. GOG (and all other digital storefronts) need sales to compete with Steam.
I, personally, am happy with the concept of this promo as opposed to PWYW, as people actually get to choose which titles to pick up from the repertoire. Unfortunately, there are no games in this bundle that I would really want at this moment, but it`s only the beginning of the week, so I might reconsider that.

Whether this promo devaluates the games is entirely subjective, as I`m sure some people would not even pay a buck for some of the games in this bundle no matter how cheap. And, just for example, the developers were basically giving away Machinarium for free a 1-2 years ago. Compared to that, this is hardly devaluating. Then again there are 19 other games in the bundle as well.

That's some nice promo alright, but I already own everything I want from that list. Still if I had to buy some of these games again these are the five I highly recommend if you only can get five:

Gemini Rue, Blackwell Bundle, Geneforge Saga, Darwinia, and a toss-up between Machinarium and Botanicula (or Torchlight if you think that's a bit much on the adventure game side)

That's almost a steal right there.

timppu: ...and I feel it is punishing me for already having bought many of the games from GOG. ...

Trilarion: The first 5 games from GOG or so I bought for normal price because I was new but then I learned from the frequent sales that everything is approximately 50% cheaper than it appears to be. So I bought my last 20 games from GOG only in sales.

And while I think the current sale is really good I now pay more attention to get the games I really want, because I have only limited time and so many games still to play. The next sale will come for sure. But cheap games aren't top priority when time is limited. Good and cheap games is the goal. In my special case I don't need to try out otherwise uninteresting games because... I don't have the time for them.
While I pretty much have the same sentiment as you, there are still times when I'm more than willing to pay full price for a game I really want, even if it may mean it might end up in my backlog.

That said, I'm not at all peeved at having paid substantially more for some of these games. They were totally worth it to me, and in those cases I'm more than happy to have sent a bit more money the developers' way.

I'm also peeved that there's a guy on here acting like Steam is automatically one of two easy routes to go for new indies. Thanks to Steam Greenlight, it's not. Mutant Mudds (a complete game from a professional developer!) still hasn't been Greenlit there.

pseudonarne: Ah, so that answers my question as well. Alll purchases have to go to the same person. They must either all be gifted or all kept unless duplicates are present. So I can't say buy one for myself 2 for somebody else and 2 more for a third person, or gift specific games out of a bundle while keeping others. had never tried gifting before and didn't know how it works. good thing I read the thread before asking. Maybe some other time then.
The functionality could be improved, but what you are suggesting is possible as I just did it this morning with another member that wanted 2 of the games I already had while I wanted the 3 games I didn't have in the sale.

In an ideal world, you'd be able to break your order into parts and indicate clearly which part is for whom.

However, assuming that you want to buy games, keep those that you don't have and give away those that you do have, you can do the following:

1) Select all the games you want to buy and send the gift code to yourself

2) Redeem the gift code yourself (which will give you the games in the gift code that you didn't already have).

3) Send the gift code to someone else to give him the remaining games (he will be able to redeem the remaining games that weren't already redeemed by you).

It's unintuitive and could be greatly improved with some additional functionality (as described above), but it works for what you have in mind.

Edit: Nevermind. Re-reading your post, you can't do what you wanted with their current system.

Wow! Another argument in a news thread! Didn't see that one coming!
This deal is amazing but there are no games that I REALLY want on offer. I hate to do this but I'm on a tight budget so I'm holding onto my money in case Planescape Torment goes on sale anytime soon.
I don't get the complaints here. Are you complainers missing the point here, that you get five (5) games for the price of one (1).

Sure, you could have gotten these from the bundles. But if you buy them now here, you'll support GOG too, which to me, matters.

So, chill out, buy them games, play them and have fun, no?
I'm not complaining. I'm debating whether to get this for Botanicula and Mutant Mudds or not (I don't know about most of the other games and I already have Torchlight off Stam, although DRM free would be nice).

Honestly, the only reason I ever come into these things is to see what people are arguing about.

shadi.lahham: There wasn't really much choice for me. Several of the games I already had bought on GOG or on the humble bundle.

The only game I really cared for was 'to the moon'

Here are the games I got
TO THE MOON, UNMECHANICAL, BLACKWELL BUNDLE

I also got these just to fill the blank spots, but I don't really like either of them
ALAN WAKE'S AMERICAN NIGHTMARE, SYMPHONY

In particular, symphony doesn't even feel like a game .. just a fancy music app.
I'm not really a music person.

You guys are welcome to comment on my choices :)
I got To the Moon, Unmechanical, and the Blackwell bundle as well. Also, Machinarium (I already own it, but I want a GOG copy and the extra artwork) and Resonance. I considered Symphony, but I'm a classical/art music person, and I suspect the game isn't really designed to work with that (despite its name). I have a hard time seeing how Copland's Symphony No 3 (which is over an hour long) would translate into a fluid gaming experience. Regardless, I'm not sure how interested I am in it anyway. I'm a musician, so if I want to "play" my music, I'll get out my violin :3.

I considered Alan Wake: American Nightmare and The Ball as well. Is American Nightmare a stand alone game? If so, are you expected to have played the first one?

The Blackwell Bundle was an excellent choice, those are some very good old-school adventure games. (If you like old-school adventure games, that is.)

Neither has Primordia, though apparently its on its way up.

yes I loved resonance and I love adventure games in general!
