A farewell to arms promo!

The Arma Series, that is Arma Gold Edition, Arma: Cold War Assault, and Arma 2: Combined Operations (complete with the Operation Arrowhead expansion), providing the ultimate mod-enabled first person-perspective military simulation experience, is available up to 80% off on GOG.com. That's only $8.17 for the whole set of three games, for the next 72 hours.

War has always been, and probably always will be, one of the predominant themes in computer games. From 8-bit systems to contemporary monster gaming rigs you'll have simulators, strategy games, and war-inspired arcade titles. But there's only one type of game that could let you really see war as a first-hand gritty and immersive experience. An FPS, first person perspective shooter. Again, there are many levels of realism throughout the genre. Some of the war FPS' tend to focus on storytelling, using heavy scripting to deliver a cinematic experience. Others don't try to hide the fact, that the war you're seeing isn't real and that the main goal is to have fun while playing. And there's the Arma Series.

Arma Series is a game series that will make you feel like an actual combatant on one of the modern-day military missions. A game that will amaze you with its level of realism in recreating actual weapons, military gear, ballistics, and battlefield conditions. A game that will challenge you in ways no other wargame ever could. Dropping you in the middle of a fictional conflict, that feels more real than most things you see on the news, it proves to be the ultimate modern-day military simulation that you can play outside of actual military VR training facilities. Arma 2: Combined Operations allows for massive multiplayer matches that can host up to 50 players simultaneously, and the Operation Arrowhead expansion that, on top of adding another campaign to the game, provides extensive mod compatibility, this is the FPP wargame you want to get, if you mean business.

On top of that, Arma 2: Combined Operations is required to run DayZ, the most popular game modification since the infamous Hot Coffe. What? You don't know what DayZ is? Don't fret--we've got you covered.

Do you think you can handle real virtual warfare? Find out if you really know which side of the assault rifle you should point at the enemies in the complete Arma Series, for only $8.17 on GOG.com. The special promo lasts until Saturday, June 7, at 9:59AM GMT. Games also available separately with lower discount rate. The games already owned on GOG.com count towards the higher discount.

Important note: This is a last chance promo, as Arma Gold Edition, Arma: Cold War Assault, and Arma 2: Combined Operations will be removed from sales on GOG.com on June 22, along with the remaining Bohemia Interactive title: Original War. If you buy (or have already bought) any of these games, they will remain on your account "shelf", so you'll be still able to access and download them.
Wait, should I buy Arma Gold, if I already got Arma CWA?
Is the expansion good?

EndlessWaves: I don't quite understand. Other posts have said that the gamespy multiplayer has shut down and the game is transitioning to steam. Are you saying I'll be able to access the multiplayer from without steam even after it's removed from GoG?
The CD keys on your GOG game shelf can be used for Steam too but that doesn't mean you are buying a Steam version right here. The dev simply handed out keys that also work on Steam. You'll still be able to play the game DRM-free and could connect via direct IP but since Gamespy will be shut down there won't be a server browser. For full multiplayer functionality you have to use the updated Steam version.

Protoss: I think there was one recently, but can you please do another sale on Original War before it disappears?

Really regretting not getting it on sale before.
So is Original War leaving on the 22nd as well? Or is that a different date?

IronArcturus: Has it been confirmed that GOG is losing Original War as well?
Yes. One of the blues confirmed it further above.

It's a good thing this is a 72 hour sale. It gives me a little time to think about it. Unfortunately, it seems like I may be limited in my purchases for quite a while. -_-

Oh I see. I must have missed that post earlier. It's a shame they're not doing a sale on Original War.
So, nobody can tell me anything about the current state of the DayZ mod?

IwubCheeze: I'm just hoping I didn't buy 3 Call of Duty clones.

toxicTom: Read a few of my posts further up in the thread. You didn't.
Just did, your post on the 3 page had very good info and eased my mind about my impulse purchase :). Some of the elements you mentioned there were some of the reasons I really enjoyed Fallout: Tactics on tough guy mode. Definately looking forward to trying it out but I might have to hold off for the time being because I don't have that much time for gaming at the monent.

With fisk0 and froggygraphics also telling me they aren't COD clones, I'm glad. Thanks for your reassurances guys :)
Just in case anyone wants to see a list of all the games that have been removed from GOG.com in the past, here you go:
http://www.gogwiki.com/wiki/List_of_games_removed_from_GOG

As for these games, it looks like I'll have to pick them up before they're gone - hopefully Original War goes on some sort of sale before it disappears again. That being said, will these games be gone at the beginning of June 22nd, or at the end of the day June 22nd?
Where are the days when there was no need for things like Steamworks to get list of servers in multiplayer?
Quake 3 was (and is) working out of the box, w/o online-drm. Just plain good old cd-key.
Damn it, BI, please reconsider your decision. Bring your in-house developed gamespy replacement to ARMA 2 and bring ARMA 3 here as well. Do not depend on Steamworks.

PS: maybe GOG should develop gamespy replacement? If developers have no time for this? :-)
I don't know if it interferes with DRM-Free principles. Probably not, if game comes bundled with CD-KEY anyway.

MaxFulvus: I don't understand ! If I buy Arma II on GOG, how can I activated it on Steam ? With the GOG code ?
What's the interest to buy it on GOG if I want to buy foreign armies DLC on Steam ? Too complicated for me !
avatar
DyNaer: there are 2 codes provided with the gog copy (not GOG codes) , which are 2 Steam codes (if 'im correct)

-> which correspond of the same content on Steam (Base game + Operation Arrowhead)

There are 3 DLCs more on Steam (which never came on GOG :/ )

-> Army of the Czech Republic , British Armed Forces & Military Company

Just wait a sale to buy those ones.
Thank you for the info. I have a little time to think about it !
Sorry if i am asking something so banal and obvious but:
should i use both codes to activate on steam - and how to do it...
THNX
Seems really dumb to do this, especially as Original War will be pulled as well, a title that's only still alive due to fan community support. Bohemia has done jack-all with it since they've acquired that game. Good thing I bought it before that happened. Still sad to see it go.

Fuck 'em.
