Frankly, as far as gaming related TV ads go, I found the old 3Dfx Voodoo (3D graphics cards) commercials better:

Fred_DM: why is regional pricing such a big deal in digital distribution? everything is regionally priced. always has been. always will be. what makes digital games so special that you think they shouldn't be?

avatar
bazilisek: Frankly, it's cringeworthy, and not really of the good kind, and the constant jabs at competition sound a lot like a fly buzzing around a cow feeling very smug. So, yeah.
avatar
Fred_DM: this is kinda true. the commercials are funny, and they do have a point, but i really think the constant jabs at other digital distributors are unnecessary, especially considering that they have a far greater market share than GoG does. you can campaign against DRM all you want but at the end of the day it's Gabe Newell who laughs all the way to the bank... that tells you that out there in the real world, DRM isn't nearly as critical a topic as GoG and some of the members here make it out to be.
Gabe Newell laughs because Steam was one of the first digitall sellers. DRM is quite a critical topic especially now days with market so big and so many digital distributors out there.
I can show you right away 2 games with DRM that needs crack just to play them... and yes they are sold on Steam as working titles :D

To be honest I do prefer GOG because they are politer than Steam support/stuff and they have showned so fat that they care about their custommers.

About regional pricing YES I have problem with that. US/Russia/Ukraine/Brazil have better prices than me and I pay more for my games and to be honest my wallet is thinner than an average American/Russian/Brazilian. So yes regional pricing suck bigtime.

A normal AAA title in Russia is 30$ for me is 50 euros you see the difference? A normal paycheck in Russia is 200 euro ...here too ;)
And I forgot one thing Valve should put it in their heads that 1$ is not equal to 1 euro FFS

Did someone forget to switch to Daylight Savings Time?
Personally I think these commercials were somewhat funny but there are a couple of moments -like the knight stabbing the laptop or the guy ripping the other person's shirt off- which are awkward and clumsy.

I would have preferred GOG reaching to its pool of resources, this here forum, and ask some of the people who have showed their tasteful creativity many times (like Lexor who had made that awesome poster-ad with the bus stop) to create some new ads/youtube videos/whatever, reward them with a few games of their choice, and use these ideas.

In any case, waiting for tomorrow!

In countries like New Zealand Steam uses USD instead of the local currency... but that doesn't stop them inflating the list price anyway. Full-price releases like Skyrim sell for $60 USD on Steam in the US but are commonly listed for $90 USD on Steam in countries like New Zealand.

You'd think Steam sales would help, but if the discount is anything less than 25% you're still paying more than the non-discounted US price--and US buyers get the discount as well. Oh, and because Steam charges in USD you're potentially paying a foreign currency conversion fee on top of that.

It's no wonder that many PC gamers outside the US opt for retail copies, especially when so many games activate on Steam anyway.
I liked the commercials, Light and fun (and I like to cheer for the little guy). I am looking forward till tomorrow, If the legends of Grimrock rumor is true it will be a instabuy for me. I don't mind the armor of steam or the bluecoins at GG , but I do think they don't put the extra effort into their games to get them to run on modern systems as GOG does. Steam and to a lesser extent Gamergate feel like this machine rolling out games new and old as fast as they can, regardless if they play or are messed up.
It's 11:07 PM in Australia right now Can't wait for the NEXT vid
<3 ... Its less then 12 hours away from tuesday! ... <3

I think GOG users could fix those videos! Let's harness the power that is GOG Users!

First we need a couple of American Hollywood actors to dub the voices, the accent is too strong currently. Is Trey Parker or Matt Stone currently logged in? Either one is fine.
Genius.

Epic.

Awesome.

Nuff said. :)

Yeah, we made a mistake yesterday. Unless you're suggesting we were supposed to have released something already today?
