Hello,

I recently got a new laptop. After installing speccy, it gave a CPU temperature reading between 90-105 degrees C while browsing the internet. Obviously this was quite concerning so I downloading CoreTemp, which gave a much more reasonable reading of 44 degrees C.

The laptop does not feel very hot, warm at most and the fan vents are not hot either though I can hear the fans running. Which one is more reliable and if it is Speccy, do I need to return this unit?

My CPU is AMD A10-7300

Thanks in advance for any help/advice.

Download AMD Overdrive from the AMD website; that does core temperature monitoring and logging - and is the only thing that AMD support listen to if you've got temperature problems. It sounds like either speccy is running in F, or it's getting confused between core temp and antoher reading. But try AMD overdrive.
Obviously the second one. In my opinion Piriform (Speccy makers) don't really have good/trusty software.

Uh.. random idea, are you sure they weren't somehow 105 degrees F? Such C temperatures are crazy..
I like other Piriform free software, but Speccy just freezes my (old) pc XD
Speedfan.

Yes, this was the first thing that came to mind but the temperature is is Celsius.

I downloaded AMD OverDrive as well as SpeedFan and both are in agreement with CoreTemp. It seems Speccy just doesn't give a good CPU reading for me (though it works great on my PCs with Intel CPUs)

Thank you to everyone for your replies, they are much appreciated.
CPUs should shut off if they get too hot - I don't know exactly where they draw the line, but I imagine somewhere around 70-80deg C. I don't trust any reading that says my CPU is over 100deg C unless I'm running a P4 Prescott.
