After hearing the game get a lot of praise on here (i'd initially dismissed it as just another military shooter i wouldnt have any interest in) i bought it in the amazon sale, and i'd just like to say a big thank you to everyone on the forums here that praised it.

It is quite possibly my game of the year in regards to story (brilliantly harrowing and THAT moment will stay with me for a while) and i would never have played it if it wasnt for the forums here!
Cool. I've only played the demo but look forward to getting it.
The line must be drawn HERE!

Go get it. Now.

It's awesome, one of the best storylines in last few years. Not your average shooter game, this is GOTY material.
Same reason I picked the game up, and it's easily my GotY for 2012. I'm also not a big fan of shooter type games. But this one was spectacular.
Best war shooter ever.
I like the game alright, but thought the gameplay was a giant waste of my time. Too much filler, not enough content. Although what content exists is very well thought-out.
I picked this game up for the same reason. I didn't read much about it other than a few comments saying that it was a brilliant game. I don't usually like games like this one, and I still don't. I'm in a three man squad and we're killing hundreds of people by ourselves. I killed hundreds of bad guys in Doom, but it wasn't trying to be realistic.

I played to Chapter 6 and dropped it. Was always expecting something to happen to hook me but nothing ever did. I don't need spoilers in case I pick it up again, but have I just not played far enough into it to get what everybody is loving about this game? If I haven't liked it yet this far through, should I just forget about it?

No. I highly recommend playing it to the end.

!!!mild spoiler!!! The best is saved for the end.

I'll give it another shot sometime. I just wasn't enjoying the gameplay at all and I hadn't seen any of the greatness I had heard so much about yet. Didn't want to suffer through it.

I suppose I could just put it on easy and breeze through it quickly to see what the fuss is about and then judge if it's worth replaying or not. I tend to not like playing games on easy or replaying most modern games though.

If the majority of the game is what you view as a waste of time, but are still interested in playing it, I definitely recommend just using Easy mode as a tool to ease your pain.
Yeah I also picked it up recently and it is a really good game. My favorite part is the radioman, there was one line he said that made me pause the game cause i just had to sit there and laugh not because it was necessarily funny, it was more like I can't believe the game just said that.

All right, I'll try it. Too much filler, not enough content is the way I felt about it up to the point I stopped playing too.
Completely finished it on all difficulties and all endings, which probably means i'm a horrible twisted person. But damn I just love this game.

I don't really understand why people dislike the gameplay so much, in fact I thought it was perfectly fine and solid. I haven't really played many other cover based shooter, but between Spec Ops and mass effect 2, I'd rather pick the former.
I said pretty much all about it in this thread

TL:DR

Second best game of all time for me. Right after PS:T.
