My fellows Goggers,
I humbly stand here in front of all of you with a simple question:
where oh where can I find a game as Tachyon: the Fringe?

A game with cool space combats, space exploration, nice explosions, where one can choose sides, with weird voice acting (like the one Bruce Campbell did on this one) and, if possible, released in this century.

I know that someone, in all his gogness, will be able to answer this plea.

Thank you for reading.

Homeworld 1 (never played 2 or Cataclysm.) Because both sides are mostly asthetic, you can play as the Taiidan "villains" against the Kushan. Works on Windows 7, at least on this user's systems.

Freespace series on GOG fits the "cool space combats" and "nice explosions" requirement.

Colony Wars is not a PC game, but fits most of your requirements. Colony Wars 2 in particular, although you don't "defect" by choice. And the side you've been fighting for the whole time almost acts as cartoon villains. Gameplay more than makes up for it though.
Tachyon is on steam
Overpriced like hell :/

Thanks for the answer!

Homeworld looks pretty cool, definitely worth a shot, though I'm looking for something with a simulator feel in it. (Inside cockpit)
Didn't knew that Colony Wars existed. I'l try to get my hands on it (I still own my precious PS1).

And of course, I've played the Freespace series (one of the best I've ever played)... I was never able to finish the second one, though.
Battlecruiser 3000AD.

Yeah, I said it.
I have Tachyon on disk. It's pretty decent. Two paths to follow, each with a helping of unique missions. Been many moons since I fired it up.

Yeah, I said it.
That's not fair! I've apparently finally managed to forget about it and then you had to say that. :(
