maybe just a silly idea....but would it be kind of neat to be able to hear the games (just a small tid bit to go along with the screen shots on the game previews? Or a small video preview of the game play. Thoughts?
I think it is best to keep the website as light as possible. No need to add extra content.

Beside, you can easily find videos of these old and classic games online
I agree with Gilou -- keep it simple. Sound bites in combination with screenshots would feel strange to me, as no matter how you do it, they'd be disconnected from each other. Then you might as well use video and IMO videos are unnecessary... They take up a lot of bandwidth and would take a lot of time to put together, etc.

Best to just keep things as they are -- the description, screenshots and most of all the reviews and forums will give players a very solid impression of what the games are like. No need to add any fancy bells and whistles ;-)

C'mon guys midi files don't need much room if compressed right.
They used to do youtube videos on the release page with some of the earlier releases. Not sure why they stopped it.

'Coz it was expensive to do, and didn't really add much to the page.

Any sites that use MIDI... become blacklisted immediately.

It isn't 1997 anymore. :P

At least you don't chuck in user made youtubes on game pages. Gamersgate does that aaannnd it doesn't exactly always work in their favour. Especially not with their long tail approach to distribution.

Too right. Any sound at all on sites should be off by default unless sound is somehow the whole purpose of the site. Even then...

Oh come on, there's got to be a niche for a Spotify clone that streams everything as MIDI, amirite?

Point is midi saves disc space and eliminates most issues with hosting it for games here & the bandwidth used. Maybe mp3 even or ogg?

Do you even know what a MIDI is?

Midi is also annoying, there's no way of knowing if the computer will play it properly (missing or changed soundfonts) or if the volume will be too high or too low.

The first time my computer tried to play a MIDI after I reinstalled Windows, it hurt my ears. It was too loud.

He's not insulting you, he's just saying that you obviously don't know what you're talking about.

FYI: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MIDI

A MIDI isn't a recording, basically it's a set of instructions on how to play the music.
