Something went awry with me sound.

Was working fine yesterday. Turned on the computer today, and realtek audio manager started constantly plugging/unplugging my headphones. I restarted the computer and now my realtek audio manager is missing completely. There's a folder in program files, but that's it. So the sound is gone.

I've tried reinstalling drivers - didn't help.

This is how my Sound section looks in the device manager, if I'm not mistaken there should be one more with a different name.

When I check my system devices, this seems to be there, not even sure is that alright. Looks alright.

Anyone else have a similar problem and is my sound card fucked?

EDIT: Hell, it's even enabled in the startup tab.

1 - you can try this
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/tips-fixing-common-sound-problems#tips-fixing-common-sound-problems=windows-vista
download that from microsoft

2 - also a troubleshooter

The pictures look normal, i have the same multiple entries.
Really doubt it is bad hardware, and that the solution is in software. Try a rollback perhaps if it is available to a few days ago.

You said you reinstalled the drivers, how about realteak audio manager?

There's only one thing I could reinstall - Realtek High Definition Audio Driver, there was nothing else Realtek related.

check the service windows audio on win 7
start -> type "services.msc" - go to Windows Audio /propeties /set it to automatic / restart the service
is it's stopped select /disabled -select automatic
This is my Realtek folder, by the way. None of these launch anything.

Did that a couple of times. No results.

Hmm. Did you try rebooting with nothing connected to your sound jacks? If not, try that.

Also it seems that the Nvidia software is conflicting with your Realtek install. I just went through this when I installed a new NIC card.

Go through each entry in your device manager, right click it, and click on "Scan for changes" or something like that. Especially do that for the one with two entries.

It should automatically reinstall your sound from Microsoft's driver list. Also, if you know what model of Realtek chip it is, you can manually install the driver from the driver install panel by selected "Choose from list" and then selecting "Sound" and then selecting the Realtek model.

What concerns me is why you have 4 nvidia entries when you use a Realtek chip - did you install Nvidia chipset drivers recently? You may want to uninstall the Nvidia sound drivers through control panel, which I'm 99% confident are just chillin' there.

Hope this helps! I'm certainly not the techiest, but this is what I would do.

scan hardware changes in device manager and that go to windows updates, if he finds some driver install that

also might want to check the cables, the sound card if it's really properly inserted, check for dust also...

Here's another link with some things to try/check (if you haven't already):

I hate when crap like this happens, best of luck, hope you can get it sorted out without too much frustration bro

You might also want to check if it is still enabled in bios.
I might be wrong, but I believe NVIDIA High Definition Audio is actually the audio that is output through DVI/HDMI when you connect a TV or similar through your video card. Windows treats it as a separate audio device.

That's also an idea, and also open up a terminal from there and use the lspci command to see if the sound chipset is even recognised.
