The "OPEN act" is sensible and would work, if anything at all that one needs to pass.. Its the only logical compromise... it'll appease the pushes of SOPA and PIPA but not destroy the internet.

I was about to post this. Even thought there are threads about SOPA, I do believe that this one deserves to be separated from them.

Of course PIPA is still something to worry about.

They may shelve it now, but it'll come out again. Might just be placed in the next Patriot act after a new false flag attack. They won't stop until they get their tyranny, and they have tons of money to bribe people with to get it.

I'm sorry, it's just that I tend to get really irritated with people who go into that ubiquitous "hyperbolize 'The Man'" mode. It's not even that I disagree, per se, it's just the whole attitude that irks me.

I don't see why PIPA won't go the same way. Unless it's some kind of double bluff. But I don't think so. No it won't. They're not interested in piracy.

The thing keeping PIPA alive is that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid seems absolutely intent on bringing it to a vote, even while even some of the bill's sponsors are now wanting to back off. It's also important to note that SOPA is not dead, but just shelved for the time being. Other atrocious pieces of legislation in the past (such as the DMCA and the PATRIOT Act) were also shelved, just to be brought back and passed once opposition died down a bit. While I'm as eager as anyone to see SOPA and PIPA declared dead, my own read of the situation is that many congresscritters are getting skittish because it's an election year and this issue is drawing enough negative attention to become an election issue, so they're backing off until the election is over (or this legislation is no longer in the spotlight), then they will just bring it back and try to rush in through once again.

Yeah, I'd heard that SOPA was shelved, but it needs outright destroyed and actually legislature needs to be put in place to prevent a SOPA-variant from starting again.

PIPA is one on which I need to read up, but at a glance, it doesn't seem very good.

Though I don't really support President Obama, I'm glad that he is at least partially against SOPA. Hopefully his feelings are the same for PIPA and even if one passes they get vetoed.

These are a good example of laws trying to be passed too quickly by people who have too little knowledge and foresight over their consequences.

from what ive heard in the debates Romney is all gung-ho about SOPA and wont try and stop its progress... being the leading candidate thats kinda scary...
