A few days ago, I got three notifications to my Hotmail address, two of them stating that I'm only one step away from registering an account, one welcoming me to Facebook and giving me links for accessing my profile and doing various things (such as uploading photos). Now, I *never* registered to that site, didn't even supply an e-mail address whatsoever, so this is rather strange. I have two theories regarding this incident.

1. It's a bogus e-mail and if I click on a link I'm redirected to some virus-laden site. this is the theory I'm more inclined to believe, but even when I hover my mouse over the provided links, it says Facebook.

2. Someone accessed my Hotmail box and registered a FB account with that.

I tried the password reset feature (supplying my Hotmail address) and it asks if I'm sure because the information I provided is probably not correct. However, below that, I get an account that matches my search.

Could be that someone registered on your behalf. Do you think someone could have mistyped and entered your email instead by chance?

Might be phishing schemes. Do the links look right? (Never mind that question, you said they do.) What email do they come from? Is your email listed in the TO?

I'm more inclined to think that the emails are just bogus...

That could be, but from the fact that I also got a welcome e-mail, I suspect that -provided the links are correct- someone also clicked on the confirmation e-mail. I also thought that, but they do seem legit. In the TO field, some "István Bitó" is given - the same account that were listed when I said I forgot my password. So, it seems someone *has* access to my e-mail.

That's scary. I assume you're the only one with access to your email?

Pretty much, as far as I know.
Anyway, I requested a password reset for "my" account. Now, how can I delete "my" not needed FB account?
Also, do you (or someone else) happen to know how I can change my Hotmail pw if the secondary e-mail address (where the new pw would be sent) doesn't exist anymore?

But what email is in the TO field? My wife uses Hotmail and she sometimes gets emails that are not addressed to her email, at least not visibly so. I assume that the spammer has it in the BCC field.

I forget how to look at email header info in Hotmail... I believe you can change the secondary pw somewhere.

Security question I think.

Update: I managed to change my Hotmail password (I found a solution in the Help Center), so unless he can guess it, my "alter ego" cannot access it anymore, and because I also changed the FB account password, he cannot log in there, either.
Now I only need to know how to delete a FB account.

Now I'm only afraid that I rid some poor soul from his access to his FB account, in case it was an honest mistake (after all, maybe he didn't have access to my Hotmail account and mis-typed his e-mail). Well, here's to hoping he makes a new one when he discovers he cannot log in (he didn't lose much).

Huh, so i'm not the only one who got registered on FB by someone. I got it disabled somehow, but geez, what sh&t must some people have in their brains to do stuff like that. ;>
