https://www.techdirt.com/articles/20141212/12142629419/leaked-emails-reveal-mpaa-plans-to-pay-elected-officials-to-attack-google.shtml

Quotes from the techdirt article:
"...it appears that this infatuation with taking down Google has extended to funding state politicians in their investigations and attacks on Google, even when it's on totally unrelated issues (the initial CID was about counterfeit drugs -- which is an issue that the MPAA likes to mock Google over by totally misrepresenting some actual, but historical, bad behavior).

And beyond that, the MPAA is showing that part of its plan is to fund "media stories based on" the Attorneys General investigations. "

"..Not only that, but it shows that the MPAA and the studios were aware of Hood's plans well before they happened, suggesting that he or his office has been coordinating with Hollywood on their plans and that the specific CIDs are actually written by the MPAA's lawyers themselves..."

Both articles are fascinating. Seriously, could the MPAA be any more mustache-twirlingly evil? Hopefully Google or the Justice Dept gets lawyers on this ASAP and gets these people jailed for the serious crimes they've committed.
A very good documentary about how shit they are: This Film Is Not Yet Rated

Mustache-twirlingly evil is a good way to put it. That's some crazy stuff!

Interesting... Just a little scary what greed can do to you...

Or rather, how inhuman a corporate entity can be. Where this comparable on a human level, it would be on par with pre-meditated murder. But for one greedy corporation to another, it's just business as usual.

I'm more convinced than ever that the economy needs a serious crash and start over... But with China (is that right?) buying up the USA's debt, it will probably go on a little longer until the whole system crashes.

Waiting for all the GOGers I've been arguing against lately in the threads about Hatred to show up here and defend the MPAA. They will probably say the same kind of BS here like "it's their right to give money to people!" and "It's their money, they can do what they want with it." And if you tell them they are wrong, they will accuse you of hating freedom. LOL

They say most CEOs are sociopaths so I'm not surprised.

Don't see how you would come to that conclusion. No, Valve isn't bribing state officials.

Well, the hatred thing was about Valve 'censoring' Hatred I believe, and I couldn't really think of any relevance to the topic here.

Edit: Ah nevermind, it was some far stretched unrelated comparison to bring the topic up again it seems.

If that is what you think then I feel sorry for your mother.
Google - one of the major forces responsible for the current surveillance society - being gently sodomized by another powerful but differently motivated asshole?

Imagine if the MPAA saves the world from being a horrible surveillance society. Imagine if greed saved us like that. Reminds me of the movie, Freddy VS Jason.

When they start bribing and corrupting public officials and the courts, I have to draw a line. Google, to the best of my knowledge, has never done something like this. In fact, I'm not even sure Google had people who would have thought of it for most of its history (or they would have avoided all those lawsuits and investigations).

Bribery and misusing governmental powers for commercial advantage is never OK.
No idea if this article is true or not, but if it is, it's just more proof of how evil the movie industry in America has been.

Anyone think that the entire world would be better off if the big movie industry had never existed? Here's a list of its detrimental effects:
-Causes society-wide decay of morals through glorification of immoral behavior in some movies
-Government corruption
-The movie industry is eternally at war against the free internet - if it isn't bogus copyright lawsuits, it's oppressive crap like SOPA and PIPA - and even when those bills were unsuccessful, there were several news articles on the movie industry looking to make agreements with ISPs to block peoples' access at the request of big media and big movie corporations.
Here's the problem: Those agreements would effectively let the movie industry shut down anyone's internet with a mere accusation of "copyright infringement!". While there's nothing wrong with enforcing copyrights, the problem is that these agreements would shut off peoples internet access with no formal charges or trial. It would effectively turn big media/big movies into the "Internet Dictators", where they can just throw an accusation any way they want, someone's Internet access gets shut off, and anyone who gets falsely accused has to go through a lengthy process to clear their name. I would predict that if these agreements between big media/movie industry and ISPs are allowed to go through, they will eventually use the agreements to remove Internet access from people with opposing political views.
It's really no different from the medieval mentality where people would falsely accuse their political enemies of being "heretics" to drum up the legal system against them.

------------------

It's clear from the last few years that the big movie industry is going to keep attacking the free internet until they run out of money or the internet is no longer free.

If you think about it: Would you rather have no movies and a free Internet, or movies and an Internet locked down and censored (including censorship of political rivals) by big media corporations?
It's in the interest of everyone who uses and enjoys a free Internet to boycott the big movie industry until they go bankrupt.

Bear in mind that if the movie industry every took down Google, everyone who uses Google Mail (the best browser-based email for people who aren't concerned about being datamined), Google Calendar, Android phones, Google Maps, etc. would lose out. It would significantly damage America's productivity and GDP.

This time, it's Google on the receiving end of the big movie industry censorship. Perhaps some of you hate Google's datamining. But ask yourself this: What would the big movie corporations take away from you next? Yahoo? Wikipedia? GOG? Your smartphone and its apps? Your Internet bandwidth? If the Hollywood elitists aren't stopped, it's clear (from their conduct over the last 12 years) they will never stop until they control all media other than news and music.

also:
Who needs movies? Video games are better anyway.

------------------

A (somewhat unrelated) observation: If the public is able to consistently block the movie industry's push for Internet dictatorship, the computer nerds and geeks are eventually going to win because as computer graphics and technology continue to improve, I envision the future of movie making will be:
-A few dozen nerds and geeks sitting in a basement
-Laptop and desktop computers everywhere
-Mountain Dew, Red Bull, and coffee on every table
-Some people implementing a movie in a video game engine
-A few storywriters (who look like they should be playing tabletop Dungeons and Dragons). Extra credit for juggling 20-sided dice while discussing storylines.
-A producer (who looks like a geek)
-Other people doing sound editing and voice editing (on computers, obviously)

Yes, I'm predicting that computer graphics and technology will advance enough (assuming someone doesn't start another world war) that there will be no need for actors, movie sets, and the movie industry. People will use video game engines to make movies. Geeks win, Hollywood elitists lose.
-------------------

tl;dr; everyone boycott the movie industry and stop the madness!
