Fuzzyfireball: Someone tell me, does EA not own Wasteland?
avatar
orcishgamer: It belonged to Interplay back in 2000 or so. Not sure who has it now. I have a copy still, yeehaw!

taczillabr: Thanks for the link. Would love to have the original Wasteland on GOG, never got to play it.

Didn't it came out for iPhone or another mobile platform? Or was it Bard's Tale?

orcishgamer: The Bard's Tale one was based on the 2004 XBox Bard's Tale remake. Akalabeth (Ultima 0) came out for iOS at one point. The most recent copy of Wasteland in retail was the Interplay's 10 Year Anthology Classic Collection from 2000 or so.

Ah, here we go: http://www.amazon.com/Interplays-Year-Anthology-Classic-Collection-Pc/dp/B000K5782S/ref=pd_sim_sbs_vg_1
The OP said InXile owns it now. I was just wondering, I thought EA owned it and we might see it soon on GOG. Guess that's not the case.
I checked out the first podcast. I've only gotten a few minutes into it, but I see some potential there. Lots of work to do though.

I like the idea too. It doesn't really fit my style of playing since I like to gather as much knowledge as possible about a game, but my recent exposure to more fringe difficult games is making me wanna try this with Wasteland.

Probably don't have the patience though.
Brilliant? Hyperbolicly apologetic more like it.

Elite Systems UK said back in october/november they where going to release Bard's Tale I, II, III and Wasteland and some other great titles as part of their 'Elite Collection' on iOS. Then they delayed release and went silent for a month before revealing it was licensing issues that caused the delay.

The app has since launched with some titles, but none of the above and no confirmation that they'll ever get released now. The list of upcoming titles no longer contains them.

Fever_Discordia: Apparently, before Fallout, Wasteland had another unofficial sequal called Fountain of dreams, although its not that great by all accounts - If Wastland is Fallout 0 what that then? Fallout 0.5?
Interestingly Mobygames groups these 2 and all the Fallout games into a group called 'Wasteland universe' I guess that's just them being weird though, can't image that works cannonically...
It wasn't a brilliant game, but it was the first non-shareware game I ever owned for PC, receiving it for Christmas 1990 and I still own that copy on 5.25" FDDs :)

Thanks, orcish.

Inded it makes sense releasing the xbox version, because of the limited controls. I wonder why Akalabeth is not included in the GOG pack of Ultima 1+2+3, heck I would even buy it separately for up to $2.99. Wasteland I would pay even $5.99. These companies owning their rights don't want to make money, I guess...

Hmm I've seen that box before, but paying $60 for a box without modern compatibility and owning half of these games? Pass.

Nice infos, I just don't know why these companies make all this effort to release old games on iPhone and etc, except for the PC.
At the PC they could sell it at an even higher price point and probably for a greater audience. Include me, in that PC audience.

Might a giant's hand did stopped its release, let's say, EA?

Ah, Fountain of Dreams. It was a direct sequel using the same engine, but unfortunately it was rushed to market and lacked the narration what made Wasteland so great. I seem to recall that it was pretty short too...
