He wants to convert all of the Star Wars movies into 3D and re-release them in theaters.

We can't even get a high definition version of the original trilogy, but this is a good idea?

Yeah, I've seen that. Worst idea ever. AFAIK, every movie that wasn't shot in 3D but has been converted to 3D later on has been crap, from a technical standpoint. You can't just magic 3D information into existence. The best you can do is to cut 2D images from the frame and move them in relation to each other. It's going to look awful.
But the vintage look of the originals adds to their perfection!
George Legolucas. The one who was responsible for 4th Indiana Jones movie script. That says it all. Sombody ought to send him on retirement.

I'd even take a re-release of a standard widescreen edition of the original trilogy. Just take the CGI away!
Is anyone else amazed right now? I know I am.

Just when I thought he couldn't possibly have another idea to ruin Star Wars, you bring me this... I still can't get over the original trilogy with the CGI added in, that actually made me *angry*.

It's been done. Unless you mean in movie theaters?

I know I can't even watch those anymore! Luckily I have the one that includes both the originals and the sacrilege ones.

I had the 2004 release with the new version and the original version. The original was in crappy tiny letterbox that looked stupidly small even on a 52" TV. Unacceptable.
Patton Oswalt sums up Lucas the best.

This is going to blow your mind.

It was predicted

GEORGE LUCAS: Oh, man, I can't wait to get my hands on this technology. Did you see what I did with Jar Jar Binks? Imagine that, but times a billion!

Ah, that's what you mean. Well, it's a matter of personal preference, I suppose. I prefer not to have any of the image cut away.

Widescreen isn't the full image?

It was my understanding that widescreen has more image...

While he's an ass for this and I hope he gets assassinated by angry purists, I'm probably still going to see at least one.
