drmlessgames: I would sell my steam account, fuck Valve if they dont like it.
It's not a matter of if they like it or not, it's a matter of if they find out they'll close the account.
Mine is worth $4039.53.

Uhh, things got a little out of hand at one point, providing me with all of the games I need for the rest of my life. Good thing I'm only buying games I actually want now...

That seems kinda... excessive...
Although I'm guessing most of those were heavily discounted?

I went over the receipts for my Steam games the other day, and found that I have paid in total ~67 Euro, or about 84% below the accounts supposed value.

Absolutely excessive. Incredibly embarrassing. But there's not too much I can do about it now...

Yeah, most everything I got was heavily discounted. I probably should have kept my receipts... but very few of the games did I pay more than ten bucks for, and many of them came in packs, of course.
Well, if it's not offered on ebay how would they find out?

I'm sure many sell their accounts successfully. But I think Valve has been known to shut down accounts because of login locations and big differences in certain trends, demanding proof that the user is the true owner of the account. If that happens to whoever you sell to, they're screwed. They shut my account down for some reason; I got it back, but I still have no idea what the issue was.

Wow. It would be terrible if something happened to your account.

Mine came to $1558 (used a different calculator). Apparently if I had gotten them all on sale I would only have spent $500 (sounds about right actually, maybe even a little less than that since I got a few games free). I spend about an average of $4 per game, and $6.55 per month on Steam. Not bad...

PhoenixWright: I know that a Steam account is literally worthless, but when I look at the physical copies of games I have, I know that they're also nearly worthless. Except for the odd game that's worth $20-$50, they are barely worth having except for playing or giving to others to play. Video games just aren't worth much money... I certainly don't look at them as investments.
Investments no, generally you're just looking to make some of your money back, because you overpaid for the privilege of playing the day after release.

Personally, I don't sell my games, ever. I just don't ever see prices high enough to justify doing so. And some games are a real headache to reacquire if I decide I changed my mind.

What do they ask for as proof...?
Could probably get around the change of location by not logging in for a week or two after buying the account and claiming you moved. And with the time habits just add that your new job has different hours. That would only work assuming the proof they ask for isn't something too hard to obtain...

Pictures of your product keys or your original credit card information.
A Steam account is worth nothing except the value for you for gaming the games. The games are NOT and i repeat NOT bought they are only borrowed for some time. You have absolutely no rights to anything read the terms of conditions on steam site. On GoG you get the game and you keep it thats a huge difference. Even if GoG is not there anymore you still have the game and you can play it. Not so on steam if they are not anylonger there you can't play the game.....
Only a complete fool in my eyes would rent a game on steam. For me it's the greatest scam i have ever seen.......
Mine is apparently worth £1368.50. By my last calculation I'd spent about £130 on it. So it's less than £200 even now.

Same as virtually any EULA, really. Although more enforceable it's still the same deal all publishers try to push on you.

Yeah, to keep. Because you can't sell the games you buy here either and there's no possibility of a refund for the games that don't work as advertised. It's not all sunshine and sparkles.

Oh and why do people keep writing it as GoG? Is the Old somehow meaningless now?

Hi Navagon, yep that's true you can't sell the games you bought here but still it is a huge difference. Since you can make a backup of the game and burn it on a dvd and then you have the game just like the original no difference. You don't need the GoG account to play the games and that IS a huge difference. On steam you are completely dependent on the goodwill of valve (satan) to play the games you did not buy but only rented. People should really get it. So the GoG offer is much much better and still i would for a full price game only got a physical copy without DRM of course. Since if i want to rent a game i go into a videothek not gonna buy it obviously......

Excuse me while I have a bout of uncontrollable laughter.

Seriously, mate, you are reinventing the wheel here. Everyone around these parts already knows all this, we just tend to disagree on whether it's good or bad. In any case, reductio ad satanum is hardly a convincing debating strategy.

Incorrect. Publishers may try and say we have no rights with various clauses in the EULA's we all sign but EULA's are not legally binding and publishers know this. Every country has the equivalent of a sale of goods act and it's that, that is held up in court not some agreement we are forced to sign. Unless you buy a product that is specified as sold as seen (no warranty) then everything you buy is protected by law, it's just that not enough people exercise their legal rights.

It's a sad fact that when a gamer uses up their activations on a DRM or has a game removed from their library on whatever DD for whatever reason they turn to a crack. There is nothing stopping someone from persuing legal action other than costs and it's that that keeps publishers pumping us with DRM, EULA's and other crap. They do it because they know we can't be bothered to fight back. If your Steam account was suspended then you absolutely can do something about it, just nobody ever does.
I really don't care about the EULA's or whatsoever as soon as the game is DRM i simply won't buy it because it is a full blown scam on a level with bernie madoff no joke because they simply make the buyer believe they buy a game but they only borrow it. So the conclusion for me it is a complete rip off. Who says that steam deletes the game ? Of course they will not do so for now.....
They could for example stop supporting Windows XP ups then the games don't work anymore or any other rip offs. I really can't believe people fall for such a Megascam like steam. If you buy here and not on steam then the game is really yours not a DRM scam. When i want to borrow a game i go into a videothek and pay 2 € but surely not 50 €. I mean srsly who is so dumb ?
