Too bad racism will never end.

I don't think we are different than before. The only reason the world is different is because the laws against racism, but the mentality of the people has not changed a bit.
This isn't an American problem. It's a people problem. Bigots are sadly not confined to any particular location or belief system.

That said, there is not enough *facepalm* in the world for some of these. Oy vey, why do we have to keep dealing with this?

TDP: It's good that this commercial had all of the racial diversity that it had, but it should have been 100% sung in English (which is a matter of culture).
I think it would have worked better, and maybe gone over better, if it were sung in English and the singers were shown.

A couple asides:

- my wife keeps getting junk mail from an insurance company with a local agent, and the ads are always printed in Spanish. When they come to me at the same address, English. See, she has a first name derived from her Mexican birth so some computer is deciding to send that other version. I told her to go to the local agent's office and speak Spanish to them, just to see if they know how.

- Someday, the ancestors of these knuckleheads will be seeking jobs at companies owned by Mr Garcia, Mr Mohammed, Ms Takajima. And then they'll start to realize that dear-old-granddad had his head up his ass.
The United States should adopt Basque as its official language, since it still uses the Latin script but sounds nothing like the other European languages.

Not every American is like the loud minority that was represented by these tweets. Personally, I don't care what language the song was sung in. I am a human being first and foremost before an American. We are all human no matter our language/culture/race/gender etc. We all laugh, cry, and are doomed to die the same.
Interesting reaction to an unknown thing:

"Then the words went from English to languages I didn’t recognize.... This was a truly disturbing commercial for me" from http://allenbwest.com/2014/02/coca-cola-ad-super-bowl-americans-brand-hm/

Hmm, apart from the lack of recognition, maybe curiosity and at lest friendly indifference could be alternative reactions to hearing unrecognizable languages.
Ah! Our weekly hot topic thread is here!

Singing is an act of communication, not an act of idolatry. Songs of any kind should be sung in a language that reaches the audience. Singing "America the Beautiful" in Spanish to an audience that includes Spanish speakers is not an offense except to those who walk around with chips on their shoulder. It is an act of welcome.

Diversity is not merely the spice of life. It is its very essence. E pluribus unum. Bring it on.

Well, like everywhere, the dumbest part of the population shouts the loudest. But more importantly: 3 big companies spent millions to play messages of peace, love, and tolerance to the world. And That's nice!
America doesn't have an official language, I see no reason why America the Beautiful, or the National Anthem for that matter, should be sung only in English.

I don't agree at all. Changing languages would butcher a lot of songs. Songs are art, and you don't just modify art to suit whatever audience in a utilitarian way. But on top of that, when it comes to a nationalistic song, you're dealing with a matter of national culture, which in my opinion should be protected. But you may be the type of person who thinks that protecting a culture is stupid. I happen to think it's a good idea (that is of course, as long as the culture isn't inherently immoral, e.g. slavery, racism, etc. those must be stamped out).

And yet translations of damn near any song you care to name exist. They made a valid artistic statement by translating sections of the song into other languages and I support their message.

I'm sure non-racists have objections, but most of the objections are clearly based upon racism and or xenophobia.
Day after day my faith in humanity gets a kick in the balls.
What were you expecting from the Super Bowl, a reasonable and openminded response? Coca-Cola should have been aware of the demographics they were dealing with.

I'm sorry, but when you're a ""not for profit"" sporting league (untaxed, at that) raking in millions to, I would hazard to guess, Billions, with a sport that manages to be more barbaric, unstrategic, less classy than rugby, you don't exactly set the social bar very high.

You're Scottish - odds are you got drunk and kicked humanity in the balls. Possibly with some precursor about looking at you in a funny way.

More barbaric that Rugby? Really?
