I knew a guy, he could duplicate fishes and breads, but his true perk was to transform pepsi into coke. And the other way round too. True story.

OldFatGuy: Almost every day is one of them but the last few days is a classic reason of why. I have been perusing the main thread and many of the subthreads on the big news from this weekend, and as I feared, it appears most of the smart assed, mean spirited, one liners aimed at those who have been complaining about regional pricing comes from........

wait for it....

posters with that little thing under their name that says "United States."
You shouldn't worry much about that : it's just statistics. I mean : under the assumption that rudeness comes from a lacking education, the fact that we all speak english here implies that the english speaking population of the forum is not 'filtered' by the language barrier. I really mean no offense through my reasoning, just stating what I consider a fact.

TDP: It's good that this commercial had all of the racial diversity that it had, but it should have been 100% sung in English (which is a matter of culture).

HereForTheBeer: I think it would have worked better, and maybe gone over better, if it were sung in English and the singers were shown.

A couple asides:

- my wife keeps getting junk mail from an insurance company with a local agent, and the ads are always printed in Spanish. When they come to me at the same address, English. See, she has a first name derived from her Mexican birth so some computer is deciding to send that other version. I told her to go to the local agent's office and speak Spanish to them, just to see if they know how.

- Someday, the ancestors of these knuckleheads will be seeking jobs at companies owned by Mr Garcia, Mr Mohammed, Ms Takajima. And then they'll start to realize that dear-old-granddad had his head up his ass.
Their "Ancestors"? Descendants is the word I think. But Nevermind. So what if it is a Garcia whos the recruiter? Economy will make them choose the one who is the best candidate. It's not like the USA will turn into an "anti-white" Hell. You have to be incredibly ignorant if you think that will happen. Believing such a thing so incredibly dumb, it hurts. You really should feel bad.
I just find it amusing how damn easy it is to divide and conquer petty humans. They break away into their little tribal conflicts so easily. Yet it takes monumental forces of nature to compel them to unite. And even then, it's usually only to solve a short term problem... before then going right back to their cults and tribes. War paint, armor on, my warrior will defeat your warrior in battle, etc etc etc... the more things change, the more they stay the same.

You know, if you did a sociology study, you could take people from various racial groups and divide them. Group of whites here, group of Asians there, group of blacks over here. Those groups would then usually self-divide amongst regional, ethnic or cultural identities. After that, you'd have even more division amongst Catholics, Jews, Agnostics, and Muslims. Further even more divides with economic classes and local flavor. Hell, by the end of it you'd be dividing them even more by hair color or musical tastes. It never ends.

And perhaps it shouldn't. We decry human differences and we often go to war and treat each other very poorly because of those differences. But what are the alternatives? Clones? Social osmosis? World wide cultural unification? Nah, I'll take my local tribal flavor over cloning vats any day of the week.

Sorry to go all meta on this thread... just seems funny to me how we all call each other names and spread hate and resentment around even as we make great speeches about political correctness and the need for more 'sensitivity.' How many times did you think you hated someone because of their own culture, only to get to know the person on an individual level, then tell yourself that you had learned to actually like that person... despite their outward views or appearance? We do it all the time. Hell, there's probably people right now on this very forum who are getting to know and like each other DESPITE their differences. And who knows, we as human beings may one day actually mature enough to start liking one another BECAUSE of our differences. I'd like to think that day might come, but I won't be holding my breath.

Yes, descendants. Oops. Defecation occurs.

What I'm saying - which was obvious to everyone but you - is that the Garcias, Takajimas, and Mohammeds in the US are some of those people who are - and who will be, at greater numbers in the future - providing employment, and that eventually some raised-on-racism dipwad will need to come to them looking for a job. And once that dipwad DOES get that job and works under those folks for a while, they'll realize those bosses and biz owners are perfectly fine people and that grand-dad (and the others who taught them racist stupidity) was a dumbass for criticizing those folks unfairly.

Elmofongo: Coca Cola makes me feel sick sometimes especially drinking one from McDonalds. What do you expect from a drink that when it first appered they actually put Coccain inside the drink back in the 1930s :P
Yeah they should definitely put the cocaine back in there - vital ingredient missing! Anyways, if i happen to remember right, wasnt coca cola supposed to be medicine at first? It aint efficient if it tastes too good ;)

Then again, didnt cannabis become legal in Colorado? Maybe they should try to cook up some new "state drink" of it?

Cocaine itself was used as medicine not the soda.

apparently coca and cocaine were (and still are) used to treat various medical conditions - or atleast they tried if it could be used.

Coca-cola was later born when its inventor (Pemberton) had morphine addiction and tried to find less dangerous substitute. Apparently the first was cocawine (alcoholic drink with coca) and what would later become coca-cola was non-alcoholic version of this coca based drink. Also it seems carbonated water also was thought to be beneficial for health. so essentialy coca (=good for health) + carbonated water (=good for health) - alcohol (=anyone can drink anytime?) -> "coca-cola the cure it all drink" was born.

from wiki:

"Pemberton claimed Coca-Cola cured many diseases, including morphine addiction, dyspepsia, neurasthenia, headache, and impotence."

I've been waiting for someone to bring this up. XD The following is true and can be construed soooo many different ways but I prefer to think of it as a combination of a) denying the elemental fruits of the capitalism that our country was found upon b) passing up on a gold mine and c) just plain turning a blind eye to good old common sense.

As you know, in the States right now, it is Girl Scout Cookie season. However the Colorado State Legislature has put the kibosh on a group of girl scouts who had the brilliant idea of pushing their product in front of Denver area pot shops. WTF!? Ten minutes of that and those girl scouts would be able to buy out Bill Gates, but "NO" says the State of Colorado. Fuckers!

No you have made your point quite clear and im aware you are married to an immigrant which does not change the fact, that you have an irrational fear based on race. stop trying to change what you actually wanted to say. it is not hard having some negative feelings towards white people, condsidering the kukluxklan or the fact that republicans are mostly old white farts. also the traditional fear of a rising number of minorities, which you have given us an example of. and stop using your partner as an excuse a la "but look im married to one of "those""!

I don't know if it's a language thing, but I suggest that you re-read what HereForTheBeer wrote, because what he wrote has completely the opposite meaning to the one you are inferring.

You gotta be kidding me. I "have an irrational fear based on race"... why, exactly? Because I said something positive about folks of other races and also criticized racists (and have every time I've posted about this stuff whenever it surfaces on the forum)?

Really, I'd like to know how you came to that conclusion based on ANYthing I've said around here. Also, please tell me what I "actually wanted to say", and again show me how you reached that conclusion.

I'm flabbergasted, but also really curious to see what you come up with next. (I think I know where this is going...)

You keep using these words. I do not think they mean what you think they mean.

The only person I've seen displaying bigotry and racism ('old white farts', etc) is you.

You'd think Pepsi Cola would cure dyspepsia, and Coca-Cola cause it. :-P

(Granted, dyspepsia likely doesn't relly mean "an insufficiency of Pepsi", but it's a fun play on words)
