Anyone looking forward to it? Directed by Michael Bassett, who had experience working with several renowned directors, including the Wachowski brothers. The show is based on (and quite strictly follows) the original stories written by Robert E Howard, creator of...you guessed it, Conan the Cimmerian. Which partially explains why I'm excited. The other reason is because most people at Comic Con this year have no idea who or what Solomon Kane is, aside from the (very ignorant) fact that he resembles van Helsing. However, there has been mass praise for the latest footage that Michael Bassett has shown to the crowd. That, and the fact that the show is keeping to the fast paced, grim and dark setting of Howard's stories, is enough to get me shivering with excitement.
But I'm starting to digress. Anyone eagerly awaiting this movie too?

So... Who the fuck is Solomon Kane? I guess I'm not even in the "very ignorant" category ;-)

Also, a fan-made video of Solomon Kane was released on Youtube recently. It's got absolutely nothing to do with the movie, but the art style is interesting, and I think it is very fitting to what one might find in a Howard story:

Although the show hasn't been internationally distributed, some people managed to watch the entire movie at various events. Thus far, comments have been largely positive. I'm not sure I've found a reviewer who went away dissatisfied yet, but remember, the movie's only been watched by a few.

So what do people think of the posters and publicity?

As I said, I am looking forward to this film, and I hope it will totally 1up Van Helsing to the film it -should- have been. I am only vaguely familiar with the storyline and had no knowledge of the comics at all.
The reviews look really promising and the description of the action is visceral and cool sounding. I can't wait for some kind of trailer to become available.
James Purefoy did very well in 'Rome' and looks the part. I hope there is a focus upon developing the character instead of the terrible Hollywood mantra of when in doubt, blow something up.

Nice. I haven't actually seen Rome, but I know he's been praised for his role in it. I really hope the show can match up to LOTR, playing on character emotions and building a strong bond between the protagonist and the viewer, instead of just having a hero embark on a mystical, epic journey to kill evil before moving on to the end credits.

I think it lacks context. That description could apply to a stylish, dark and brooding bastard who is almost as much of a prick as the people he stops OR it could be a cowboy superhero with wisecracks and bullet time

Ah, well you're right the wiki link doesn't do him justice. I can't elaborate since I haven't read the stories either, but I've read Kull and Conan, and I think Howard is amazing in creating his characters. He gives them life, and he makes very believable anti-heroes, with larger than life scripts.
I've been trying to search for the book at the library, but to no avail :(

From what I understand from excerpts of previews at Comic Con, the anti hero part would probably be the origin story of Kane, created by Michael Bassett. Since there's no origin story when Howard wrote Kane, Bassett took the initiative to do his own interpretation of an origin story - before Kane joined the light side, he was a malevolent pirate and plunderer or something like that
I tried searching for the Death Dealer novels too! Damn it, local bookstores don't have them, nor do the libraries. I'm very eager to read it, especially since I've got nothing good to read now. I've got no choice but to place an online order, but I'm short of money now, so it will have to wait, most unfortunately :(
