Skysect: Hi guys . Last week I started to think something about GOG's social features . I don't know implementing is so hard or not but we have only a forum . Maybe a profile with custom link will be cool . (Yeah I know we have a "My Account" section but I mean a public profile like Steam or Facebook) Or some another things like that . What do you think about this one ?
Yes, this is something that has been IMHO greatly lacking in the GOG experience to date however it was bound to eventually happen that GOG would likely address this at some point. With the announcement of the GOG Galaxy platform coming later this year they have hinted that it would contain social related features. While they have not yet got into the details of that, I think it is perfectly reasonable to expect that it will include social networking features that people have come to expect nowadays such as s personal profile of some sort, the ability to connect with friends/contacts somehow and see their profiles, interact via instant message and possibly other ways, make your game collection visible to your contacts or the world at large, as well as your wishlist and other features. This is all my own pure speculation and GOG has not specifically listed any of these features that I'm aware of, but it stands to reason that this is the direction they are likely to go in as they move into providing gaming client features that include social networking functionality. Remember they're ultimately responding to what many customers have been asking for which has been lacking to date, and also to provide something that hopefully is competitive with other gaming services out there in terms of features, so they'll be looking at what the competition has to offer and most likely trying to offer similar features in a hopefully superior manner.
I think it is safe to assume that they have our interests at heart, and that if there are any social networking features they don't already have implemented by the time Galaxy is officially launched, they'll probably have a TODO list of features they'll be working on for future releases/updates, and they'll be listening to community feedback to prioritize the types of features we would all like to see available in the client and platform.
I'd like to see the types of features I mentioned above and many more, and I think GOG can not only provide similar features to that of the main competition and other options out there, but that they can do a better job of it and also do it in a manner which provides greater control and respect to the customer.
What particular types of social networking features would everyone else like to see available in the GOG Galaxy platform? They're probably going to be reading this thread so we might as well share our thoughts here. :)
