Post your pick! No need to pick only one.

I think the only major 2014 release I've played is Mario Kart 8, though I'm not sure. And it's a great game. Guess it's mine!
I'd love to answer this question, but I haven't finished a game released this year! I'm generally a year or two behind! Plus, there are all the classics from here that I can't include...
Hmm... the only game released this year that I've finished is South Park... so I guess I'll pick that one.
Deus Ex!
Wolfenstein New Order or South Park :)

FWIW im actually in middle of Wolfenstein atm - its actually pretty good.Nice graphics (medium settings).AI decent. Story actually quite decent. Gunplay mechanics and bit of variety in the game is very good. Have also tried Shadow of Mordor --- nice graphics and combat is good, but....get the feeling even with the Orc captain mechanic it can and will get tedious for me IMHO at some point.. South Park despite the ordinary graphics (yes i know - its based on the cartoon - cant do much about it) is quite funny and decent for what it is :)

Warlords of Draenor.
Nothing :P

(To be more on topic, haven't delved into 2014 games enough to really have a "Game of the Year")

Niggles: Wolfenstein New Order or South Park :)
I read this as Wolfenstein: New Order of South Park. Which got me thinking...

1. Castlevania: Pillars of Eternity - the new first-person metroidvania rpg!
2. Sonic: Revelations and the Kingdom of Osiris - Sidescroll your way through fully 3D environments in this unwinnable mashup!
3. Deus Eternity - A fully remastered HD 1080p reimagined reboot of the first level of the first and most beloved game in the quadrophonilogy! Just the first level, but expanded into the biggest open world since Daggerfall. Procedurally generated world? Sure! But we've also got procedurally generated enemies! Is that a bush or a dangerous enemy agent? You may never know.
4. Stonewarmth - the new and final DLC for Skyrim. Burn down the home you built and you can pick up and carry with you forever a few stones from the wreckage. These stones will never cool down. They will keep you warm during those cold nights in the frozen north. Works on the popular mods Wet and Cold and Frostfall, too!

These are my favorites of the year.
Binding of Isaac: Rebirth, without doubt.

That game sucked! But Sonic Party: Featuring Marky Mark was totally radical!

On a more serious note, I would say either Smash Bros. Wii U or Hyrule Warriors, it's a tough choice.
Oh hey, this topic again...again.

Same as before:

-Metal Gear Rising (Steam version)
-Shovel Knight
-1001 Spikes
-Crimzon Clover: World Ignition

I actually played a fair number of games released this year which is rare for me as I usually wait a year or four to get them really inexpensively (and with all the expansions/DLC bundled in.)

I'll go with Wasteland 2 as my game of the year.
Have not found one gay enough.
The Walking Dead - Season 2 (by Telltale Games)
Possibly Galactic Civilisations 3 but i haven't gotten into it yet.

The fact is, i never find any new release games that excite me so much that i just have to have it, but i made the above exception because Galactic Civilisations 2 is such an exceptionally brilliant game that i just 'had' to have Galciv3.

The game that i have played the most in 2014 is Total War 2
