Good question...since I'm always at least 1 year behind the newest stuff I'd say I can't help you on this one :)
Well this site is based on Good Old Games so most of its users are most likely playing "OLD" games. You should have more response of your ask for Best Old Games or Best Games of all time

Like, "So what's your Game of the Year 1994?"
The only game from this year I've played thus far is Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2... And I'm still int he middle of playing it. Still, excellent game thus far, I've really been surprised at how well this spinoff series has gone.
I think I fucked up in my game choices this year.

That specific year? It really test my aging memory, but with the help of googlefu, I find that master of magic, king of fighter, and Jazz rabbit is released in that year.

There are other worthy games released in that year like Final Fantasy 6, Jagged Alliance, Warcraft, Master of Orion, need for speed. but I had not play them so I cannot make a good judge of them.

Maybe what's your games of the decade of 1990s, 2000s, 2010s should be an question less taxing on the memory

Nah, I was just rolling back 20 years from this thread. But speaking of 1994, I'd have to say Doom II. Decades are a good idea, though.
If newly localized games count, I'll go with The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky. One of my top ten games ever. I loved the characters and the fact that so much of the combat was optional. I really enjoyed the relaxed pacing of the plot and the quieter moments just walking around and talking with the minor NPCs. The ending was also fantastic and has me looking forward to the sequel.
Mount & Blade:Warband + DLC
or
Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup

Those games would tie for my Game of the Year. Though technically they didn't come out this year, they're just new to me.
If we're talking about this year's releases, I had plenty of fun playing Wasteland 2 and Blackwell: Epiphany.
Blackguards
I think I'll go for Broken Sword 5. Technically the first part was released in late 2013, but I'm counting the full game. I think that's the only game I finished which was released this year.
Despite its defaults and regional price: Isaac Rebirth. :P

I still have to do the lost runs and find a couple dozen items. :P
If only I remembered what games were released this year. :l
How about splitting it into AAA and Indie GOTY? :P. Im sure plenty of people have had a go of at least one of each this year?
