pigdog: My thoughts are: they don't exist. If they did, then wouldn't there be paranormal events occurring in everyday life? It's not a particularly strong argument but it's just my two-pence/cents worth.
Not very open minded but each to their own! ;)

coxdr: Crowley was a always a very interesting character. I dont think he was always right but I think some of his ideas were genius. At IU while I was going they had some of his letters which where interesting to see him in a different light.

Aveweto: letters to a female student of his? ive got a book with a lot of correspondence between him and an unnamed female student of him, me aswell as a friend of mine strongly believe that student was actually Dion Fortune
They were letters to Montgomery Evans but there were a few that mentioned a female student. From what ive read by fortune it would be interesting if it was her he was writing about

well the book im talking about wasnt something he wrote about someone, its a reprint of the letters he wrote to a female student, giving advice and helping understand things and you never get to read the actual letters of his student just his responses

Aveweto: so does the air exist even if you cant see it? :P
Oh I see....the logic is, if air exists, so must ghosts. :P

I admit that I tend to be quite cynical about anything that's not scientifically proven. Slightly off track, what pisses me off are fortune tellers or individuals who have a "gift" that allows them to communicate with dead relatives.

You get ones that are real good at it too. There was one I have been impressed with, it was good fun.

well those skills and techniques just need a lot of practice and youll do it without noticing sooner or later
I have no idea about ghosts, but I have encountered things I could not explain.

Nothing visual, just auditory, but enough to make me look for a cause that I couldn't determine.
As a kid, I used to genuinely believe there were ghosts in the cellar of our house. I believed that as long as I talked to them, they wouldn't attack so I'd verbally announce my presence every time I went down there to get some tools or ice cream from the freezer.
As for my grandma's house, there were always ghosts in the attic and basement but only in dreams. The ghosts in the basement were never visible but in the attic you could sometimes see them. After my grand aunt and grandma died, they would sometimes appear as ghosts in the attic (only in dreams, as well).
Here's a few things to consider.

If Ghosts exist, they offend the Christian Faith by having a situation where a soul is neither rewarded nor punished.

If Ghosts exist, they offend the Catholic Faith. While souls can exist in purgatory, a ghost is considered to be lost eternal from an outside perspective, instead of being cleansed and moved onward to the afterlife.

By these two, we don't equate a soul to be equal to that of a ghost. A ghost is considered a manifestation and gestation of a person's will and emotion, as opposed to an intangible spirit that makes a HUMAN alive, to be returned to either a creator or destroyer in ethereal worlds. These two religions don't give souls to animals, and animals have been thought to be represented as ghosts as easily as people.

There are religions, faiths that do allow ghosts, but I don't know nearly enough to be a decent source on either.

This would assume you're both Christian and also that you heed to one of the many doctrines of American styled Christianty I presume?!
